The Public Works Authority—Ashghal—has announced a new diversion on the road leading to Al Markhiya roundabout beginning today.

The diversion is to facilitate works on converting Al Markhiya roundabout to a signal-controlled intersection, which started on May 15 and is expected to last until October this year.

The new diversion will last until July 20. During this period, only two lanes- the middle and right lanes-will be open to traffic on all streets leading to Al Markhiya roundabout.

The new intersection will involve four lanes in each direction on Khalifa street, in addition to three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right.

This is in addition to Jasim Bin Hamad Street which will also involve four lanes in each direction, three lanes to turn left and one lane to turn right. During the project, works will take place in the following areas:

-The first area stretches over 600 m along Khalifa Street from Al Markhiya roundabout towards TV roundabout.

-The second area stretches over 1000 m along Khalifa Street from Al Markhiya roundabout towards Al Gharrafa interchange (also known as Immigration Interchange).

-The third area stretches over 300 m from Al Markhiya roundabout towards Jasim Bin Hamad Street

-The fourth area stretches over 300 m from Al Markhiya roundabout towards Street 245 (also known as the Arab League Street)
