Marble stairs with sharp edges, not kids friendly

Hi All,

I 'd like to run by my situaion and would like to seek comments how did you folks cope with it. I have two story villa where floors are tiles with some marble. The stairs (between lower and upper floor) are all marble with sharp edges. I have a 4 years old boy and obviously he runs up and down. I dont feel these stairs are safe at all. A fall/injury can be very devastating becuase of sharp edges.  What are the solutions to this apart from asking the boy to be very careful.

I was thinking of installing some carpet which would act like a cushion.  I would like to aviod carpet as it can collect dust and can cause allergies but on the same token safety is first so I will probably go with installing carpet.  What are your thoughts? Any other suggesstions?

If you know of a good shop/business which installed carpets then please share the contact info.

I really appreicate your time for looking into the post.

In our previous home where we had carpeted stairs we used to have safety gate but my child has passed that stage, he can easily climb over the safety gate. In general I agree with you safety gate is great idea for younger kids

I agree with you. A carpet can act as a cushion but will not prevent a child from falling. I would suggest a child safety gate so he cannot pass through without your supervision. Available in Ikea and ToysRUs.
