Expats need only bring a copy of their passport with their residence visa, colour passport-sized photographs, and a completed application form, in addition to the basic fee. I applied 3 years ago, things would have changed now, anyway these are the documents i took with me...
copy of passport
copy of qatar ID (take the original along)
sponsor's ID (for me it was my husband's ID)
copy of the marriage certificate
latest utility bill (electricity/ water) (if the utilities are covered in your rental, then take the rental agreement)
