Save Fuwarit beach before its to late
Today I have sent the following email to the Qatar Environmental Ministry.
Subject: Please save Fuwarit beach before its to late
Dear Sirs,
I am one expat resident here in Qatar for 1.5 years and also one of the many people that frequently goes to Fuwarit beach at the weekends.
This is an alert for the level of pollution from which this beach as been a victim for the last year:
1. Solid wastes: the sand of the beach its becoming more and more contaminated due the leftovers from the barbecues and to the burned charcoal that people buried under the sand.
2. Natural reserve: This place its knowed to be a natural reserve where the turtles lay their eggs at the breading season. Because the cars are using the beach sand as a road, this sand its now compacted to a level that will be impossible to the turtles to dig the holes where they deposit their eggs.
3. Air and noise pollution: More and more people are using the beach to practice motorized sports; people go to the beach to rest and not to be disturbed by the noise of the motorbikes that are constantly cruising the beach. Not to mentioned the hazards that this type of vehicles represent to the children that have no notion of the danger like the adults.
My final appeal is: PLEASE SAVE FUWARIT BEACH BEFORE IT IS TO LATE
Once upon a time there was a big fire in the jungle.
During this fire the elephant noticed that the hummingbird was very, very busy taking water from the stream with his beak and trying to put out the fire.
Intrigued with this behaviour the elephant asked the hummingbird what he was doing, to which he replied: I am doing my part in trying to put out the fire.
How are you going to get them to shutdown Ras Laffan to reduce the pollution? That is more important than turtles or you bbq at the weekend.
Why not create a Social Volunteer Organization that would focus on clean up of the Fuwarit beach and help in its Conservation effort?
If you do enough and create awareness on its importance, people and government will start to notice. At the end, it might help.
Just a thought.
The most important thing is that you've done something rather than just complain about it.
Only those who attempt it, no matter how small the chance for success, will have the opportunity to succeed. Rather than those, who did not do anything at all.
I fear it is too late, my friend. I await Qatar's heralded Environmental and Sustainability rhetoric to be translated to action.......... It will be a shame to lose the few good public beaches
Thanks to the OP. As more people use these public spaces, more care needs to be taken in regulating them--litter, use by motor vehicles in designated areas, etc.
MAleixo: Great gesture. Let us hope someone listens
Timebandit: For many, this is their "Fuwarit" beach :o)
We all need to act responsibly when using public spaces.
What needed is self discipline and respect to other beach lovers..the action you did above may result into closing the beach to anyone.
I have been in Qatar for 20 years and witnessed the changes, and I tell you: it's already too late!!
good luck!
Good luck but I am pessimitic of your success with this.
Qatar is a peninsula. Why is there a shortage of beaches?
