Contract or letter of offer?
Hi all.
So I have a letter of offer and I've been asking for a signed contract for weeks. But the company still hasn't said when the contract will come.
I'm due to leave my job in 6 weeks to start in Qatar in 10 weeks should I be concerned? Is a letter of offer the norm and maybe a contract on arrival?
This has been under offer for almost 2 months now.
Thanks for your replies

Hi I am in Qatar and signed a offer letter from a company in Qatar and started working there. But visa is not applied and i haven't submit my passport. i just gave them a copy of my passport and my free visa copy. I am having a 3 months free visa (Transferable visa with NOC)
i have some doubts please clear.
is it a legal Labour contract?
if i get a better offer can i sing?
Is it possible that my current employer can apply work visa with my pasdport copy an free visa copy.
Please Reply me on urgent basis. Thanks
azzi, no Employment Contract is required for submitting the work visa application. Even the Job offer has nothing to do with the visa.
Normal practice is signing the Job Offer which serves as a mutual agreement and acceptance of the offered terms and conditions, and which outlines the main points of the future Employment Contract. Once the work visa is issued and you are in Qatar, they will let you sign the Contract which will be a part of requirements for issuing your Residence permit.
Normally you won't get any contract signed, until you are in Qatar. Contract should contain at very least your work visa number, which you still don’t even have. So your priority now is getting a work visa.

Hoping to get the contract through in the next few days as it was signed today apparently...
In your offer letter, it should state the following:
- basic salary
- housing allowance (or accommodation allowance)
- transportation/petrol allowance (or a company car provided)
- education allowance for your kids (if any/applicable)
- return ticket after completion of X number of months (1 or 2 years)
- Number of leave days per annum (which is at least 21 days per every year of service).
The above details are also stated in your contract of emp0loyment which would be (in English and Arabic) in triplicate copies(1 for the labour Office, one for the employer and 1 for you)
The CoE is part of the documents submitted to the Immigration in acquiring your working visa.
hope you find the above info helpful.

Mohisakhan appreciate the reply. Hope I don't offend but I wanted confirmation from someone in a similar position to me (not local hire) and who has been in Qatar for a while.
Thanks for trying to help though.

I haven't resigned the contract I am working on is ending. But still by the looks of what you are saying I should still be applying for other jobs until everything is in place.
Thanks
offer letter if signed act as a confirmation of acceptance and should be sent back to the company in Qatar. But you should not resign until you receive your Qatari Visa.
Once you receive your Qatari Visa you should resign and give your tentative joining date to the company in Qatar.
Upon your arrival in Qatar , your company will provide you a formal labor contract which will be signed by you and the company's authorized signatory which will later be attested by the ministry of labor (will be done by HR).
I hope this information is helpful.
Cheers!!
Ummm not a norm but some company is practicing it. Actually, I'm working now for more than 3 months with just job offer signed, still receiving salary. No formal contract yet. But I'm local hire. Better ask for contract. You're right with your observation, it seems some are practicing business here ignoring this stuff.
I've asked and asked for a contract. But nothing is coming back from them. In most cases the topic is being ignored in their response.
Check with their HR first and show your concern to them. I dont think there will be an issue , if u ask them directly.... making assumptions is not good at this stage.
