the point of the radar is to care your life, you beloved and others. you may crash yourself while having a speedy trip if you like, but you possibly hit other people or cars and you put others at stake. think about it. i once fined but blame no one, trust me when speedy driving kills, you will wish to have these kind of radar more..

1) its not very cool to do 180 and then brag about it here.

2) many people, including me, live and breathe cars and driving; but the responsible ones take their passion to a purpose built racetrack. For general info, Lusail circuit has a track driving season pass for 3000 rials and single sessions at 300. Excellent alternative to speeding and taking out yourself and innocent folks.

3) it is possible he did in fact do 280. Al Khor highway back in the day when I was a brainless teenager, let my Mom's Camry touch 240 with a tailwind. There's plenty of non lambo/ferrari cars that can see 280. Hell, there's a Camry in Saudi Arabia that does 300+.

4) He said he normally follows the speed limit now; so there's hope.

5) Again, remember, speed on a track thrills; on public roads it kills

its on Alwaab street everyday... ive been fined Qr.500 once for driving at 111 km/h :(... even during the morning their car is parked on the empty ground on the same street ... :(

In NZ they have the camera in the back of the van/car and it is parked on the side of the road; usually around a corner. Good to see that the authorities are at least trying to cut down the road toll. I look forward to seeing more of these around the city.

I think 280 is an exxageration...unless the poster is driving a lambo or ferrari or porsche, then i would stand corrected.

As for the speed camera, yes it is a speed camera and it is not pointing at the lamp post, but rather pointed on the road at an angle. It is mostly installed before the speed sign, that way there is a proof that you are exceeding the limit that was set for the road, in case you argue that you did not over speed.

my 2 cents worth.

I think 280km/h is too much...maybe you have to reduce that because:

1. in Dubai there are lots of radars on the road

2. on working days there is enough traffic on the roads to keep your speed below 140km/h

The only possibility I can think of is that you maybe driving on the Dubai-AbuDhabi highway after midnight at about 12am or you are a millionaire who contributed a good amount to UAE Traffic Dept. through fines.

If it was a speed camera then they would place where there is a clear view to take photos of the plate of the speeding cars. This one have the light pole blocking such a view. Also, mobile radars have been seen installed inside cars parked on the side, which makes sense for battery supply, protecting it from weather elements, and concealment. This is not a radar, but if you are a speeder, it is.

This is a mobile camera. Mainly they install this camera on the way to wakra from Barwa signal. Also from Dafna R/A to T.V R/A. And almost every day on Al Khor highway after simaisma flyover. Installed by the traffic deparment. Take care.

Why so complicated equipment, and why on the ground? and why it facing across the street?

I doubt it is a speed camera, it is more of a car counting device for traffic statistics and planning.

yes I swear but not anymore. as Doha roads doesnt allow you to do that infact my driving way has been reduced coz of the radars that I have gained in my life:D
