Usual salary assessment and career options

Hello all,

I'm a single 28 yr old, been in doha for a year, in investment banking.
Moved from the UK.
Are there any bankers or people working at banks who would know benchmark salaries at some of the major banks.

I have about 4yrs top experience, and my all inclusive salary is about QAR 55k a month, so I have to pay for everything with this amount (including accommodation etc.). Bonuses are minimal here and no other perks.

Is this a reasonable amount, to be working in doha?? I could probably relocate to asia or the west, but would earn about 35k - 40k QAR after tax.

From my experience doha is quite expensive, food is very expensive compared to west, and vehicles are not as cheap as I thought. Rents are stupidly expensive as well, so even as a single person, I'm reassessing my options..

thanks.

If you're single with that salary you've hit the jackpot, nothing at all to complain about I think! high rent, food etc it's expensive everywhere buddy these days!

You're damn right. Go back to UK and try again, and you wont get the same anymore. There are 15 Johns and 20 Edwards in queue before you to get here.

sorry I meant 5yrs experience including my time in Qatar.

I'm not trying to be greedy, just wanted a fair benchmark. Reality is, including bonus my best year was my penultimate year in the UK (by a fair margin), despite the high salary here. But times have changed and life has changed!..

wow lucky you. try living on 5100 a month and 70% of your salary is for rent.!!! I do!!!

Greedy be blessed!!!

I know many people in Qatar that are getting very un-fair lowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww salaries even as bankers, that were born here, but as always being discriminated against since they are not Qatari or Western.

Please be thankful and blessed you have amazing salary tax FREE

Did you say you have 4 years of experience only?

thanks, i agree you can get cheap food at certain places. Whats missing in doha, is mid-priced food (Which you get in a normal developed country). Its either too cheap (not great quality), or ridiculously priced at any of the hotels..

Anyway sorry I wanted to get some feedback if there were any people working in banks etc..about how that salary compares..

cheers

Depends on the individual. Some people spend a lot on

luxuries and expensive brands and excuse me for using this word, 'splurge' heavily.I agree that housing is quite expensive here but definately not food. There are many places here in Doha that you can go to and eat without spending a lot of money. As for buying a car is concerned,i would suggest you do a bit of exploring before you make up your mind.Good Luck!

dear jefferinton,

my dear friend....

Earning 55K a month in Qatar is like capturing top of the peak on MOunt Everest. You can get a good accomodation for Qrs 10000 + all your food expense can be of Qrs. 10000 + If you want to take loan for a car / SUV it will be Qrs. 5000 max for 5 year. what else u need? you are still saving Qrs. 30000 per month. That will be equivalent to GBP. 5,196 per month.
