Well, even I am working as designer of ipad custom cases, buying iPad device is costly than Samsung, well, featured wise Samsung is good, in iPad only the name why you are paying that much.
both are good tablets, but I'd prefer samsung, as we all know it is an open software, meaning there are lots of programmers contributing to it's development. I mean all programmers around the world, unlike Mac.
by the way, I have upgraded my tab 7.7 from honeycomb to ICS but unfortunately, it is without the arabic language. Maybe that is why it is not available in GCC, call me for more info.
I have both ipad 3 and sony tablet s. to be honest for performance ipad is better, but for office performance sony better, it can open words and excel. Sony can play almost all format of video and music also can expand his memory up to 64GB with an SD Card which you can buy in carrefour in cheap price. Those advantage you can't get from ipad.. With almost the same size sony is lighter in weight compare to ipad, which save your wrist a lot.. For camera both has same great performance but ipad does better.. One more advantage of sony, he has the Vaio technology so that''s why it's highly demanded nowadays..
Screen and Performance of Samsung is best but Ipad is better then Sony.
and dont think about Updates coz its not that important, you can do later,
About Istore and Play Store there is a big diffrance.
90% of Usefull Soft is Paid on Istore but Android only 30 to 40 % Usefull Apps paid but still you can get free from internet 3rd party website free and can b Install easily via Androinf sync soft ..
I personally feel Sony a better alternate than samsung as early firmware updates and better form factor....
Also tell me about istore and googleplay apps which one will be more useful for office as well as home use.... i already use Samsung Galaxy phone but the ICS update was delayed....
Please comment on the screen resolution user experience...

buy samsung tablet 10.1 etc or ipad 3 .
samsung is more better for business use then ipad . i have both but the samsung helps me more .
If you like Android go for samsung 8.9" or 10" Tab
Between Ipad and sony tab Ipad is good but dont go for it..
better to use Android..
