As I have joined this forum very late so I would like to put some light on the Rexton problems, I am one of the Rexton owner, Actually the main interesting issue discussed above is gear box engagement in the morning, As there is a delay of 3 seconds or more so this means the clutch and brake bands inside gear box are worn out and a complete overhaul is required, they will change the whole maintenance kit then it will start working properly, and for Rexton I belive only El Naeel can do this job.

2005 and above model came with mercedes benz gear boxes so they do not show any problem but older gear boxes show this problem after 100,000 kms, I can say more how to use automatic transmission to have long life out of it.

Please share that your gear box problem is resolved or not?

Hi the Qr 600,- was for 6 sparkplugs and 4 distribution cables. Fuel cons is a little bit better now 5.5 km for 1 ltr. According El naeel its normal. Have great day ciao Slim01

The fuel consumption, 4.4KM/L is not normal. Usually it will be 6-7KM/L. Check the injectors as well for the fuel efficincy.

Good call the sparkplugs were fried replaced those cost me around 600 riyals. Also the airco works absolutely perfect now. I even have to put the fan lower because its freezing after a while.

Regarding fuel consumption i run 4.4 km with 1 liter as well. Think its normal with the crazy driving in doha with airco on.

I will service the rexton at 75.000 km again to keep it reliable.

note: All garages here knows only about Toyota and Nissan. And a few others likely Honda and Mitsu. So, make a clear idea about the issue (like possible issues) yourself and approach any garage. Else, probably they will ruin your car. If you are doing service at times, its an excellent machine that will net let you down anywhere.

In my case, I will spend the whole hours with my Rex, if its in any garage. If its multiple days job, its sure I will be off work for that days.. Else I may have to pay more to find and clear other issues related with the new service.

Now to the issues.

1. A/c cooling effect.

The force of air flow? I hope you might have been checked all related with a/c. If gas and all ok for sure, better do clean the duct. Its just inside the glove box. May be thats dirty.

2. Starting problem.

Before making any sudden decision, replace your battery with any of your friends and make a try. Probably the battery may show green, but the amps will not be correct. Its normal issue with the battery at this weather.

or. check the dynamo/ dynamo connection cable. may be its loose or near to break.

or. if the symptom like struggle start when the engine is hot, check the fuel injectors. clean it. before doing this, check the plugs.

Hope you have a clear idea about your rexton..! Follow above points... i hope no other issue may be there on this car.

I brought the car to Naael, I checked the fusebox they were all intact. Just hope the cost at Naael will be reasonable.

i think maybe it is electrician problem , and i think it will be so easy to configure which fuse not working ,

just try to find any electrician , and it will be easy and simple ( EN SHAA ALLAH )

Today i had a big problem. When i started my car it wouldnt start the first time luckily it started the second attempt and we went for a drive to get som e diner. After diner the same thing happened only this time the startmotor kep cranking the engine, i tried for more than 30 min. Also pumping the gas eventually did not work. We had to leave the car behind eventually.

Do you guys know what might be the problem and can you recommend me a garage close to airport area, mansoura, al meera area to get the car towed to be fixed.

i think you have to wait for 2 months , then the heat of doha will go away , and you will fell cold when you turn on the AC .

i am just joking with you , but i have the same thing in my car , that the ac not making me fell freezing , but i think it is normal . and if you are sure that your AC gas is okay and the cabin filter is okay , it means there is nothing to do except changing the compressor . and i do not think it is a good idea .

so just try to put the ac flow come direct on your face when it is very hot at the middle of the day like i am doing , and you will fell good .

and do not compare your current car with your old & small car .

Can you help me with my airco. I have a big problem driving in the daytime because it seems the airco cannot cope with the heat of Doha. I just serviced the airco with Naeel but the air doesn't feel really cold. Do you have the same problem and or how can I get the cabin cold to the point that I am freezing.

i am a new owner for rx320 2004 , and i can not believe that there are any body else has this car here in qatar .

So, i am very glad to ask somebody about my problem .

first, my problem is:

at morning when the car is not warmed enough if i change the shaft position from N to R it is working very good , but if i change the shaft from N to D there is no response from the gearbox till i push the accelerator pedal to around 2500 rpm then rapidly push the brake pedal and at this time the gearbox start to feel that it in D position , and after that it working good till i stop in a signal or any place else and put the shaft to N position then i have to repeat the morning process again but with a little push to the accelerator pedal about 1500 rpm and some times i did not need to push the pedal and just wait about 3 seconds after putting the shaft in D position and the gearbox take the action ( but with delay 3 seconds ) and some times when it is very hot after a very long drive the gearbox working normally unless i did not stop the engine .

please advise me with a good garage to go to , because i do not know any where except al nael , and they told me it will cost a lot to repair the GB , and i think my GB is okay but there is an electric problem .

and finally , i want to thank you for give me the hope that there is others i can talk with them .

by the way , the ABS and EBD warning lamp are always on .

its 2003 model. Its 4Speed AT. Drive Doha-RLC/ Inside Doha. 200Kms is nothing to cover in a day.

What year is your rexton and from where to where you travel daily which is 200 kms?

What type of auto trans is that 4at or 5at?

Its great reading your reply. Its covered almost all issues on Rx can be. Gr8. So far no issues rather than the delayed engagement. But still don't believe its the symptom of gear problem. I believe its an issue of low ATF fuel. When before starting in the morning, just move the gear nob from P to 1 a couple of times, there is no issue of delay in gear shifting nor i need to wait.

Al nael suggested 6 ltrs of ATF for the gearbox. But the BTRA says 8 Ltrls of oil in the gear box. And our mechanics pour only 5 ltrs said its full..!! Anyhow need to check again the ATF.

So far no warning lights on the dash, no noice from the front wheels or from anywhere. Its smooth to drive. I used to drive a speed of 120-140Km/Hr on highways and inside city limit 60-80max.

Thermostat, its always showing below half the temperature in any rpm at any climate. So, i think its ok for me. The spark plugs are changed with the previous service, i.e., 25days ago. So thats all ok.

The fuel filter not yet changed. The oil filters' only changed on last service. So gonna do the service on MAF sensor cleaning and the fuel filter change. There after can think about the expensive service parts. MAF sensor at Al Nael costs 1200Qrs..!!

There was another issue of starting the engine. The veh. wont start once the engine is hot. have to ignite 2-3 times or hold the ignition for 20-40 secs.

by the way, any idea, what may be the optimum cleaning solution/spray for the sensors?

Mass Air Flow sensor, if you already done the diagnosis with al nael computer and not shown any abnormal result; mean it is okay. That sensor is normally not a major issue.

Damaged MAF sensor just easily can be detected in 'check engine' warning light at your meter panel.

Try to change the spark plug too.. It is only qr14. My rexton is using Bosch Super 4. It really improved. I bought those during my outstation in Berlin last year.

Check also your spark plug cables from any leak sparking. Replace it if necessary. One of my rx320 friend here faced that problem before.

I forgot.. For fuelpump problem.

Normally your car will feel heavy because the pump work hard since the fuel filter stucked (original rexton fuel filter located under the car chasis below steering column) not changed.

This filter is only qr80 at al nael. But better to change with mercedes part which much more bigger and cheaper at any european car sparepart shop.

Next symtom is ignition relay inside engine bay fuse box may start blowing anyhow normally we just can short circuit it.

This fuel pump located under back seat behind driver side. A small opening from inside the car.

Damaged pump normally have a continuity low ohmage to body ground.

This pump cost around 980qr without bracket which you can use the old braket to secure it.

One more common problem which many of the rx320 facing is noise at front tyres. This normally happened if you change the brake pad to non original type or the existing brake pad wear at 80%. countermeasure is just to cut off the protruding metal at disk side.

Yes, the sign of at gearbox failure is just like you were saying above.

Rx320 have two types of gear box. 4 speed foward one speed reverse and 5 speed foward and two speed reverse.

Four speed foward type always had this problem.

Those gearbox is made in australia.

The engine is very good. Mercedes s320 year 1998-2002 type, far more better that musso.

Rexton L6 engine have vantelated cooling opening between waterway or coolant passageway compare with musso.

But it is good if you can just remove off the thermostat at it waterpump to make sure your engine run cool unobstructed always.

Cost for repair at al nael is quite expensive, that is why many ssangyong owner here in qatar prefer just to buy the spare part there and replace it out side.

One more thing, rx320 do not have a dip stick to check the atf level. So, just go to any outside workshop to open the inlet bolt and check the fluid level by finger.

Running in low level atf shall burn your propeller at clutch in few hundreds kms.

1. Its a full time 4x4. But the shafts are removed already. So my fuel efficiency is still a mystery.

2. Late engage is the current issue. But the gears are not at all harsh. Even the reverse itself smooth to engage. And once the first wakeup start is ok, N to D is very soft. There is no hit/harsh in gears.

Changed ATF 2k Kms ago with oil seal. Recently found a oil leakage and found its from inside gearbox. But the leakage is not as much? When check with Al Nael, they insisted to change the seal inside the gearbox.

3. I wish to believe :) the transmission is still ok. If i need to replace the plates, any idea how much does it cost?

4. What is the fuel pump issue u faced?

5. My Rex will cover almost 200Kms a day. So probably every 5k i will change oil i.e, once in every two months.

There is also a possibility to find issues on the MAF sensor as coupe 2003 said above.

If your rx320 is fulltime 4x4, 6-8kms per liter is normal. If you want to get more milage, no choice but to remove both front drive shafts.

Late engage for d and sudden hard engage for reverse is a sign of transmission going to spoilt. Try to change atf first buy it at al nael but change it outside. It is cheaper.

If it still not okay after 1000 kmh with that new atf, you need to service the valve body or / and change those 32 plates of transmission clutch. Ac delco type are better than original ssanyong.

Do this at al nael may cost you around qr10k, but if out side labour cost is around qr3-4 k and parts need to buy it your self.

I am using it for 5 years, except for that AT Gearbox and Fuel Pump issue, this RX320 is really a good and confortable machine.

My odometer is now around 150k too. Oil change every 2000kms. (8liters).

Tip top condition, 2004 model.

thnx for your comment. surely will do. I guess the MAF sensor is the one HFM sensor in Rexton. May be this is the reason the engine feels heavy when about to move from stop. Lemme try it first. I hope the fuel efficiency issue will be clear with this one.

Not sure with gear issue. Regarding low mileage , try cleaning or replacing MAF sensor.
