Qatar’s courts heard 86,980 cases - civil, criminal and labour - and passed 68,523 verdicts in the last year, according to the annual report released by the Supreme Council for Justice (SCJ) and published in Arabic dailies yesterday.
The number of civil suits taken up by the courts was 24,119 and final verdicts were passed in 15,839 cases. Criminal suits were 4,734 and verdicts were passed in 2,749 cases. The Lower Court heard 8,374 cases and passed verdicts in 6,556 cases. The court for dud cheques heard 23,422 cases and passed verdicts in 21,665 cases. The Traffic Court dealt with 3,096 cases and passed verdicts in 2,711 cases.
The Court on Environmental Issues heard 1,000 cases and disposed of 903. The Court for Criminal Investigation and Follow-up which deals with violations of immigration and visa regulations by expatriates heard 7,514 cases and disposed of 7,456. The number of family related cases including inheritance and minors’ issues was 5,251 of which 3,775 were settled.

--------------------------------------------------------

Some interesting figures here (weekly aggregation for easier perspective)

463 Civil Suits per week
91 Criminal suits per week
161 Lower Court hearings per week
450 Court for Dud Cheques (Lol there is a court for dud cheques) hearings per week
59 Traffic Court Cases per week (I thought this would be higher)
19 cases per week for The Court on Environmental Issues. 17 of those each week were disposed of. (What does "disposed of" mean... thrown out?)

The Court for Criminal Investigation and Follow-up which deals with violations of immigration and visa regulations by expatriates heard 7,514 (144 per week) cases and disposed of 7,456 (143 per week). Ahhh... so "Disposed Of" most certainly does not mean thrown out ;)

143 family related cases including inheritance and minors per week.

MarcoNandoz, Mean if daily more than 200 crime cases are registered in a country then that will be more safer than Qatar? Well just asking!!

ingeniero : "crime statistics often tend to reflect the productivity and law enforcement activities of the officers concerned and may bear little relationship to the actual amount of crime"

The more such reports are being reported the safer the country is.

I've worked for 23 yrs with criminals, believe me they are not all horrible people, sometimes it's there but for the grace of god. Circumstances at times makes us behave irrationally . And am not a do gooder just a realist,

Crimes that are almost always hidden which is the reason why I'm surprised yesterday when my friend told me about him being called for a hearing because one of his close friends was murdered and yes, it happened here. o_O

I'm surprised they didn't handle more. "Justice" is very easy in Qatar:

Qatari--not guilty ever

Western expat--not guilty or suspended sentence (following his free departure from the country)

Non-western expat--guilty

My country has no relevance on Qatar Living, and my OP was simply to attempt to clarify a report in the GT today.
