Good morning Qatar rant!!!.

What are those people who shamelessly leave their mess on the table and conveniently walk out of a self-service restaurant?

Every time I go to one of those self-service joints, it bugs me to see some people just walking away from their pile of garbage left on the table. : Mad!

argh this drives me mad. Especially when the place is busy, and there's no where to sit because all the tables are covered in garbage, waiting for a cleaner. I've cleared up other's rubbish before so I could have a table and been stared at as if I were crazy.

It's just common curtesy. More importantly, taking your empty cup and dirty napkins to the bin yourself wouldn't put anyone out of a job. Cleaner's are still needed to wipe down tables, clean floors, dust, and focus on the big, gross jobs of keeping a place like that clean. Not picking up after someone who's perfectly capable of tossing their trash in a garbage can themselves.

at Starbucks...

I usually go to Starbucks Ramada, so I can sit outside and smoke, and I have never seen a bin to throw rubbish away. I usually put everything on a tray and leave it on the table so its easily cleared away.

If there was a bin, I would use it, like I do if I go to any of the takeout joints...

Whenever I clear away after myself, the staff look at me in shock, and the customers look at me as if I am a loony.

I suppose when you have been brought up with maids doing everything for you,you just expect others to do everything to..I would always remove my mess it's just something i have always been brought up to do..Different nationalities different rules and outlook

They aren't exactly the same, Prism, but there are parallels. I've seen the guys in the yellow jumpsuits pushing brooms up the street to collect the rubbish, so why is it more wrong to leave your rubbish in the streets than in cafes?

In a perfect world wouldn't we all just take 15 seconds to put our rubbish in the bin on our way out of Starbucks?

To me, there is no excuse for leaving it lying there with the expectation that someone will just magically appear to clear up after you.

Prism:

Maybe your missed the point. Any place that the public has free reign over and is open for all to consume/use/enjoy shares is everyone’s responsibility.

Besides, if there is a garbage can out for customers to use I damn well expect them to use it!

The two situations...leaving rubbish behind in cafe and throwing it out of the car window on streets.. are somewhat different and one may not necessarliy logically follow the other. In case of cafe's we have helpers who can attend to the rubbish immediately whereas it is not so in case of later whereby the litter may stay on the streets for much longer period and being in open, prone to (faster) degradation causing harm.

I guess with Villagio & City Center closed they had to go somewhere. God I wish I had the authority to use a fire extinguisher on them!

saw that too TB and a cigarette burn on the table... lol

Blame it to force of habit perhaps, but i always clean up my mess after eating.

If we say that it's okay to leave your rubbish all around you in food courts and cafes because someone is paid to clean it up, doesn't it logically follow that it's okay to throw litter from your car window, because there are people paid to clean up the streets as well?

I just can't fathom why people are happy to live amongst so much rubbish in this country. It seems contradictory to me that in order to prove that you are 'rich' and 'important', you won't touch your own rubbish, but this then means that whenever you walk in to a food court, the tables are all covered in rubbish. How rich and important do you feel when you can't find a place to sit because of everyone's waste?

I do that too,all the time. And I do share Marco's feelings here. Common courtesy seems to be completely dead among certain people!

I'm parked at the corniche, near the big pearl..I just returned to my car after a run..I see a citizen, put down the window and dump rubbish out the window...

The best part of this, there is a trash bin right in front of their land cruiser...

so typical...

"Why should the cleaning staff have to pick up after rich children"?? So they can pick up for poor children. Then the question is, what is the beench mark to decide who is poor and who is rich or are we all who buy food from there, considered rich. But before anything else, why is cleaning staff there otherwise...I mean why are they hired cos next would be, dont drop anything and if u do then clean that up too...so again what would the cleaning staff do?

Self service counters are for picking the food by yourself, if I understand right, not beyond.

By cherukkan• 17 Jun 2012 09:02

I asked twice and the answer was rude. "We are paying for the food and let them spend some money to give job for some poor guys who will do the cleaning".

The sad fact is that there is no compulsion for them to clear up. Mainly because the eatery does not post signs requesting them to do so, but also bacause they know that someone will clear up after them..

By fubar• 17 Jun 2012 08:48

Am I the only one who gets stared at in food courts when I pick up my tray and carry it to the bin?

It's not just the other patrons who look weirdly at me, it's also the cleaning staff. Are they thinking "thank you for not being an animal" or "please don't tidy up or we won't have a job to do"?

And before anyone makes a smart arse comment about inefficiency of cleaning staff in public places Why should the cleaning staff have to pick up after rich children?
