Killed four and injured 28 after trying to avoid a cat on the road

The Ras Al Khaimah traffic court has ordered a man to pay blood money of Dh800,000 to his victims' families after finding him guilty of killing four people and injuring 28 in a car accident on April 12 in Ras Al Khaimah, a judiciary official told Gulf News on Wednesday.

The official said the accident happened as the Emirati motorist was trying to avoid a cat on the road during his commute to Dubai. "He veered suddenly and hit a minivan travelling on the road, transporting workers."

The accident resulted in four workers being killed and 28 injured according to Colonel Abdullah Al Munkis, Director of Traffic and Patrols at the Directorate General of Central Operations at RAK Police.

Did you read in Doha News about the 17-year old Qatari kid who killed his friend and seriously injured himself last week when he flipped his Dad's LC? Police reported he was doing 140-160 kph. That's not stupid, it's not tragic, it's criminal homicide.

I will not answer that..God alone knows, and I trust He'll give this guy what he deserves one way or another.

For me I truly can't think beyond the speeding bit.The fact that so many people do it, and actually take it so lightly. In fact it's a subject of much pride for some "Oh I can do 130" "I can do 140...easy!" and yes I have heard this myself!

I have people giving me odd looks to sarcastic remarks cos I speak out against it. They actually think it's no biggie and that I am acting miss goody two shoes for saying so. Seriously! Have they no sense =(

See Fathimah, as I understand the intent of the person who started this thread...it is the driver's fault for being so foolish as to save a cat...never mind the speeding.

Now, IF the driver was speeding and would have hit the cat, there would possibly have been an accident anyway.

Right...these fellas are wild I tell ya. They should be the one's sent to feline rehab!

But Fathimah...it was the cat's fault, not the drivers! ;)

Was longing to know the outcome of the said case. Well.. I wonder no more. Can only hope the money will being some consolation to the grieving families who may have lost their breadwinner along with their loved one.

And finally, my biggest concern is will this driver be simply set free, without some kind of jail time or at least rehab. He clearly can't drive without being properly counselled in order to avoid future tragedies.

IMO speeding is never a good thing. Speeding is by far one of the most dangerous of social evils. Not to mention illegal under all circumstances to drive above stipulated speed limits. This is something I am known to remind many people of time and again...and I will keep doing so specially when catastrophes like mentioned in the OP occur time and again!
