Moving to Doha this summer with a 15 year old and an 11 year old- HELP?

Hi
We are planning to move to Doha from the UK this summer with my husband's job.

I have a 15 year old and an 11 year old- both girls.
Are there any other parents out there with a 15 year old daughter? She is terrified of starting a new school and it would really help if she could make a few friends via Facebook/E-mail before we arrive.

Schools- any advice would be very welcome. My eldest will probably have to go straight in to sixth form as she is currently sitting in Scotland the equivalent of the GCSE's (Standard Grade exams). The schools in Doha are telling me she can't join year 11 in the English system (which is her age group) as the rest of the class will be half way through their GCSE course.

We are coming next week to look at Doha College and the Doha British School. Could someone tell me which has the better examination results, as they don't appear on their websites and more importantly which is the nicer school.

Does anyone have any knowledge about the American International School? The company my husband will be working for are confident of getting our daughter's in to the American International school, but I am not familiar with the American curriculum.

Any advice, help etc would be VERY VERY welcome

Not sure how to answer on this forum, but thank you Kevin. It is very reassuring to hear that you also moved with kids the same age and are happy with Doha College.

Boarding school for our eldest is another option we are exploring.

Kathryn,

My wife and I moved here 2 years ago and whilst we do not have daughters, we do have 2 sons. They were 11 and 15 when we moved in 2010. Our eldest stayed at Boarding School in England for a year to finish his GCSEs and started his A levels at Doha College in September last year. Our youngest came with us and started at Doha College in September 2010. We are really happy with the school and the support they have given to both of our boys.

I am not certain about the American Curriculum, but the American School of Doha has excellent facilities and is 100 metres away from Doha College.

There is plenty to do for children, but with the summer heat anything outdoors must be carefully planned.

Regards,

Kevin

I hate to burst your bubble, but schools are full, do not come, he can come alone and see if you all can come along next summer
