Another doggie question...

Hey y'all!

I am bringing the mutt with me when I come but am wondering about the attitudes towards dog in Doha. For example, if my little man decide to urinate, would people shout etc? He does not urinate for the sake of it or to mark his territory, just when he needs to. And what if he needs to do a bit more? I obviously would pick it up but I would rather not have people having a go all the time!

Any opinions on this?

Unfortunately there aren't many places they can be let off lead (your dog, I meant, not MN or MT;-p)

If you go to this Facebook link https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/174477659275888/

they should be able to give you much better ideas of where to walk your dog off lead.

As Mandi said, most people buy their supplies at the vets. Also on Facebook, search Qatar Vet Centre and Parkview Pet Centre for all your pet needs:-)

I am just treating you like you treat others little girl. You mention respect in your signature. You began to disrespect me first. No doubt I will get 'well you don't respect me blah blah blah...yawn'

So perhaps kettle, pot and black applies to you little girl.

What an awful teacher you must be with your attitude towards others. Not a good role model at all. Now grow up and go and learn to be civil and respectful to everyone. Perhaps the children in your class should teach you as you are clearly twisted and pathetic.

your words;

"Just agree to disagree or kiss and make up or ignore each other. Would you encourage a child in your class to keep arguing or would you encourage them to get along?"

Practice what you preach pal.

Answer to your first question = your stinking and self righteous attitude.

Not 'personal'? = don't use my username then. Can't put a match to fuel without a spark.

Just like how you have replied back to me to put your argument across?? pot calling the kettle black much!

What is your problem?

Yes, this thread is precious to me as I needed an answer. Ungrateful? I can't even be bothered trying to work that one out.

And I have already thanked you and agreed you gave me advice so what exactly is your problem? I asked you to respect the fact that this was my thread and I would like it to stay on topic. I also said that it should apply to any member, not just yourself. So please don't take this too personally or try to make it about you.

You are being extremely unreasonable and rude for no reason. I can easily hold my own but I have no wish to argue over the internet. I gave you no row. I merely pointed out that I did not want you and the other guy not to argue on my thread. Just agree to disagree or kiss and make up or ignore each other. Would you encourage a child in your class to keep arguing or would you encourage them to get along?

So take your trolling/flaming else where.

So here we go once again...back on to the original theme of the thread.

Thank you Max. I think my dog and I will be fine! He is a good lad and like any dog, curious but well behaved. By the way, I am not too sure of where my accommodation will be yet but if anyone knows of some places where the little man can run free and release some energy for a while would be good too. And pet shops?

Cheers!

Oi...Mr ungrateful, get off your high horse pal and quit reciting me the QL Guidelines. Yeah, you 'thanked' me then went on to say how I'm disrespectful and try to give me a row for 'diverting' your precious thread.

Guess what? ...it happens in any converstion. In this case however, everything I said related to your OP & as you say I had the decency to even apologise for the thread going in a different direction. NOT by myself may I add;

"shisha202 said MT not only dogs, pigs too ...

MT not only dogs, pigs too include are in the same category for us, and yeah as u said many hate even to stand beside a dog."

You asked about the attitude of people here towards dogs. I gave you an honest answer from my own personal experience. Then MN comes along and starts trolling, driveling rubbish about generalising and what not. So if you are going to have a go at anyone, hes your man.

Last time I'll be giving you any advice...& yeah I don't have a clue why folk like to have a go for no reason Max. Perhaps they had a hard school life as a child. Pathetic.

And did I not thank you for that advice? Yes I did.

However, arguing your views on this thread is disrespectful. As you had already mentioned, you had drifted off topic talking about pigs.

Rule 6 of the community guidelines state: Stay on topic and do not hijack threads or post off-topic comments. Start a new forum topic or send a private message if you are in doubt.

If you have any else constructive to say that relates to this thread then please do add it. That applies to any member of the forum.

Missteacher and marco, I would appreciate it if you could have your lovers tiff elsewhere so that I can focus on the main point of this thread. Thank you for any useful info but you two arguing is disrespectful.

Marco, this is about DOGS.Let's keep it that way.

If you'd like to talk about anything else, you are free to start a thread about it.:)

And yes, Muslims, due to culture and belief, often shy away from dogs. There, a sweeping generalization founded on experience. ;)

By Missteacher• 30 Apr 2012 15:11

I better statement, would be to say some Muslims don't like dogs, some Christians don't like Muslims, some whites hate blacks and some blacks hate everybody including themselves, and some Jews are out there to destroy the world, and every agnostic is not an atheist but every atheist is agnostic. Got IT

Well, u said they 'n then explained by “THEY” you meant Muslims. So I’m asking you, when you say they “Muslims" don't even like to be anywhere near where there are dogs are, thus the hilarious sweeping generalization. My question to you is that, do you even realize that you just without any right commissioned yourself to speak on behalf of the world’s 1 billion ‘n something Muslims?

Oh sorry MN ...Muslims. Every one I have spoken to or are friends with say the same about dogs. Of course there are exceptions as Xena has talked about, with some Muslims even adopting or training them.

I don't believe that the washing 7 times is necessary.

These matters were dicussed many hundreds of years ago when there wwern't things called disinfectant and such to clean yourself.

A good wash (one time) with a disinfectant wash will do the trick. No need for 7 times.

I suggest to my muslim dog training clients or those that adopt from QAWS, to have different clothes for working with their dogs, and they only handle their animals when they are wearing those clothes.

There are ways and means around these things - most of the time the fear of animals is cultural.... Was told by a Sheikh... the reason Arabs in particular don't like dogs, is not religious... its because in the old times, their mainstay was thuggery and thieving and the dogs at the homes they would go to plunder would give them away with their barking!!!

Please read and learn!!!!

Dash201, please feel free to walk your dog and do not concern yourself with where the dog urinates as long as its not in parks and near mosques. Use your common sense.

I would suggest taking a small spray bottle of disinfectant and pooop bags with you to pick up the poop and disinfect the site after.

Stay away from the cornishe. Even though I have taken my dogs there many times and seen people walking theirs there, just to be safe, stay away.

Hope this helps.

Yeah I know that the pig is deemed dirty in Islam and some could argue (due to the old Testament) that in Christianity too.

So do most animals Cherukkan e.g cats lick themselves clean. Each to their own anyway. I just know that no one I've ever known have got sick from petting a dog. My family live with one and they are all healthy.

By cherukkan• 30 Apr 2012 08:24
cherukkan

Miss Teacher, Dogs will be licking all over its body and the saliva is full of viruses and bacteria. Dogs are not as clean by nature, dogs eat their own poo and vomit. They sniff and lick other dogs bottoms and dogs' saliva has enormous amounts of viruses and bacterias.

They carry fleas and ticks and internal parasites (worms, that humans can contract).

Trust me...they don't even like to be near a dog...let alone touch them.

By GodFather.• 30 Apr 2012 07:45
GodFather.

Its not unclean to touch a dog in Islam, it the saliva of the dogs mouth that is unclean.

There are not many public places where you can take the dog for a walk. So you will have to live in a compound to take the canine for walks.

Don't worry, I've owned a dog in 3 different GCC countries over 12 years. It's not a big deal if you respect other people's space and property. And if you look at all your respondants' previous posts you'll be able to separate the wheat from the chaff.

on sandy areas. Better trained your dog to pooh once only and possible night time only. Chin Chin do that. She pee three times, morning before I leave for work, early afternoon after bringing wife home and night time as we take our 2 to 3 km walk.

Ok, conflicting answers now....straight answer please from a dog owner would be good. I can't imagine someone being decapitated over it. I am on about just on the pavement (sidewalk) not letting the dog run up to someone and pee on them or letting the dog in someone's garden.

To be fair, I am wanting to keep the dog safe and respect others which is why I am asking.

So long as you aren't in public parks or someone else's property you (and the mutt) will be fine. Just use common sense and give others a wide berth - not all people love dogs anywhere in the world - respect their space and you won't have any problems.
