The following are ten facts about crime in the United States that will blow your mind....

#1) The city of Detroit, Michigan literally looks like a war zone and violent crime is thriving. So far this year in Detroit, car thefts are up 83%, robberies are up 50%, burglaries are up 20% and property destruction is up 42%.

#2) Lawmakers in Illinois say that violence has become so rampant in Chicago that the National Guard needs to be sent in. In just one night last week seven people were killed and 18 were wounded - mostly by gunfire. In fact, there have already been 113 murders in Chicago this year.

#3) The city of Phoenix, Arizona has become the car theft capital of the world as millions of illegal aliens who can't get work have found that stealing cars can be very profitable indeed.

#4) There are approximately 12 million crimes committed in the United States every single year. That is by far the worst in the world. No other nation has more than about 6 million reported crimes per year.

#5) In New York City, the number of homicides in the first quarter of the year had shot up by approximately 22 percent compared with 2009.

#6) U.S. prisons are already bursting at the seams. As you read this, there are over 2.2 million people in prison in the United States. In fact, America leads the world in the number of prisoners and in the percentage of the population in prison. The United States has 5% of the world's population, but 25% of the world's incarcerated population.

#7) U.S. law enforcement authorities claim that there are now over 1 million members of criminal gangs inside the country. These 1 million gang members are responsible for up to 80% of the crimes committed in the United States each year.

#8) There are over 100,000 rapes in the United States every single year. That is the highest number for any of the countries in the United Nations.

#9) According to USA Today, 58% of state and local law enforcement agencies in the United States reported that violent criminal gangs were active in their areas in 2008. That was up from 45% in 2004.

#10) Every year, one out of every five people is a victim of a crime in the United States. No other nation on earth has a rate that is higher.

So there are 10 'facts' on the list.

I clicked through all the links to all the 'facts', and found that of the 11 links:

* 7 links took you another person's blog, and again didn't mention the source of the 'facts'.

* 4 links were to 'news' sources, but curiously, 3 of the 4 don't actually work.

Something like 'fact 3' stating Phoenix to be the car theft capital of the world? Google it and you'll see several cities trying to claim that prize.

The 1 link to a news source that did work was the USA Today article about gangs for 'fact 9'.

If all these 'facts' were true, and maybe they are, why are they not backed up by police statistics, or news reports, or government data? Spooky...

BG, you do have to realize that your "source" is not generally recognized as reliable. I'd invite you to visit New York, Chicago and Phoenix. Actually I think you'd find them quite enjoyable, unlike, say, Damascus, Baghdad or Kabul.

Do people just believe everything that gets copied and pasted onto the web?

Why is there not a single source of footnote for these so called 'facts'?

Back them up with some statistics and I'm sure people might be a little more interested.

oh, I think it is a very good thing that things like this are publicized and some people actually believe them!

"Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments."

This is also FICTION!

Who sets a standard? God? Or some influential people? Does that make them the standard? No, they just have enough influence to set the "standards". The funny thing is, that these 'standards' are constantly questioned and revised, BECAUSE there are no objective standards.

Scientific experiments are impossible! By definition they have to yield identical results under identical conditions. This definition itself is flawed. There are no identical things or conditions in the whole universe. Every single instance, or every single object occupies a well-defined position in the four-dimensional space-time-continuum, and it is not possible to occupy these positions with another object! Science doesn't verify anything. Science ONLY offers a simulation or a model. How long will it take until the humans understand this?

And "facts" are event that are done. But who looks at them? Billions of different eyes. And what do they see? Billions of different "facts". There is no way to find facts other than to use your senses. But your senses are the most subjective instrument one can think of.

In general, people always talk about opinions. Facts will forever be disclosed for them.

LP, Apparently South Africa isn't in the UN (I'm sure that's news to them). But then again, you can't really trust "facts" from a pro-gun/anti-illegal alien website can you.

I think you need a bit of education about what does and what does not classify as a FACT:

Fact: A fact (derived from the Latin factum, see below) is something that has really occurred or is actually the case. The usual test for a statement of fact is verifiability, that is whether it can be proven to correspond to experience. Standard reference works are often used to check facts. Scientific facts are verified by repeatable experiments.

now, what you've posted are not facts, as none of the things they mention can be verified (and if you follow the links many will take you to lovely white supremacy sites, so way to go racist), so they are not facts, they are:

OPINIONS: In general, an opinion is a subjective belief, and is the result of emotion or interpretation of facts. An opinion may be supported by an argument, although people may draw opposing opinions from the same set of facts. Opinions rarely change without new arguments being presented. However, it can be reasoned that one opinion is better supported by the facts than another by analysing the supporting arguments.[1] In casual use, the term opinion may be the result of a person's perspective, understanding, particular feelings, beliefs, and desires. It may refer to unsubstantiated information, in contrast to knowledge and fact-based beliefs.
