Texas man executed for 10-month-old boy's death

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — A convicted child sex offender was executed Wednesday for the beating death of a 10-month-old boy he was baby-sitting at a home in Dallas.

Jesse Joe Hernandez smiled and laughed at times before receiving a lethal injection for the slaying of Karlos Borja 11 years ago.

"God bless everybody. Continue to walk with God," the 47-year-old Hernandez said. Moments later, he shouted "Go Cowboys!" in honor of his favorite football team.

As the drugs took effect, the condemned man repeated his appreciation for those he knew who had gathered to witness the execution. "Love y'all, man," Hernandez said. "... Thank you. I can feel it, taste it. It's not bad."

He took about 10 deep breaths, which grew progressively weaker until he was no longer moving. Ten minutes later, at 6:18 p.m. CDT, he was pronounced dead.

No one related to the slain child attended the execution, the fourth this year in Texas. It was carried out about two hours after the U.S. Supreme Court denied last-ditch appeals for Hernandez.

Ten-month-old Karlos was taken to a Dallas hospital in April 2001 with a skull fracture and bruises to his head, thigh and abdomen. A week later, he was taken off life support and died. His 4-year-old sister had similar beating injuries to her head, ears and eyes but survived.

Hernandez's DNA was found in Karlos' blood on a pillowcase and on the child's clothing. The boy's sister drew stick figures for detectives to help describe her attack.

Hernandez denied beating the children but later told a detective he may have hit the boy with a flashlight. He did not include the flashlight reference in a written confession in which he said he "just exploded" and struck them with the back of his hand.

Korly as you can clearly see we humans have not yet been able to develop interacting with animal yet...so forgive the monkey for he knows not what he says.

Further more if we look at the title of this thread it says " How can one do this to a baby" Baburao's sole intention was not to talk about the culprit who did the crime but to point fingers at the parents who trusted their child with this person.

Typically he does not get sleep without thinking "outside the box"

If an apple falls from the tree on his head its the fault of the wind. What can we do in such a situation?

what if " the parents r diplomatic "

By Korly• 29 Mar 2012 13:19
Korly

My father was a diplomat.

But you will never understand what I have said, because you have closed your mind.

You react on the word Muslim, without actually reading what I have said - not understanding anything - you saw MUSLIM and you jump in both feet first.

As I said - predictable - sad, but true, BG, you are a product of your parents - As you have mentioned many times in the above posts: "The parents must be held accountable"

By Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte• 29 Mar 2012 13:15
Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte

1.diplomat father means ?

2.the etiquette of being humble ? do u have the same to talk abt my mother where as i havent pointed fingers at ur mother still n i wont coz i m not U , the subject is on nanny take care of kids

3.I am sorry to have to bring this to your attention, BG, but if you are Muslim as you maintain, then unfortunately, your mother did an extremely bad job at teaching you to practice your religion, - again hypocrisy if this article was from a muslim baby sitter media wld read it as Muslim Baby sitter kills baby , why havent they mentioned Christian now

By Korly• 29 Mar 2012 13:07
Korly

So your mother raised you?

Such a pity she didn't seem to do a good job of teaching you the etiquette of being humble, having some kind of decorum and understanding that others have their own opinions and ideals, instead of you forcing yours on them.

I was raised by my nanny, mother and diplomat father, who long with teaching me right from wrong, also taught me that everyone has the right to their own opinions. People have a right to believe what they want to believe and have the freedom to chose to be nice or plain nasty.

I was also taught how to be social, how to act in public around others, to be graceful and allow others to say their piece without me giving my own biased opinions and how not to be outright rude when delivering my own opinion.

Notice a trend here?

I am sorry to have to bring this to your attention, BG, but if you are Muslim as you maintain, then unfortunately, your mother did an extremely bad job at teaching you to practice your religion, because as far as I am aware, my parents taught me Muslim concepts, without our family actualy being muslim and I have learnt to follow them, exactly. The points I have raised, without actualy following any particular religion are just plain common sense.

I have said it once before, empty vessels make the most noise - you should read that many times over before sending a response. Unfortunately, you will come back with some kind of comment that goes to prove my point, instead of keeping a still tongue in your head and trying to prove me wrong.

What a psycho. Yet how he managed to appear sane enough to gain the trust of the boy's parents is amazing! Whilst I will never condemn parents who need to leave their kids with nannies,my sister is a single mother as was other girls I know hence I understand for many this is not something they do out of choice or for selfish motives, I do think a lot of thought and research should go into choosing someone for such a huge responsibility. I mean look at this: "Jurors saw those images and also learned that Hernandez had a previous conviction for molesting a child and drug possession, had beat his ex-wife with a baseball bat, burned a girlfriend's child with cigarettes and was found with a shank while locked up in jail."

Surely wasn't anyone aware of his criminal records before handing him custody of their kids?

Smokey, its better throw some rotton bananas on tat monkey so tat he gets busy for a while ? :(

By Miss Mimi• 29 Mar 2012 10:37
Miss Mimi

MM the above crime happened because the poor young single mother, who was living in a house with NO RUNNING WATER, was trying to work to feed her children. If the United States had better social welfare programs, or offered government subsidized childcare, she wouldn't have been in that situation.

It's a shame, but don't go tarring and feathering every parent who has to work to support their child as a bad parent.

By smoke• 29 Mar 2012 10:37
smoke

Sorry i dont spoon feed stupid monkeys..do it yourself.

By Missteacher• 29 Mar 2012 10:37
Missteacher

Yes there have been causes where teachers have abused the children they have taught.

A teacher's job: to educate and care for children.

A nanny's job: to take care for children.

your point?

explain the job of a teacher and a nanny do the teachers abuse or kill babies while teaching

By Miss Mimi• 29 Mar 2012 10:32
Miss Mimi

No it's the job of the Nanny to take care of the children and the vast majority do it very well. Just like most nurseries are also trustworthy. You can't protect your children 100% of the time, so either people take risks or nobody has anymore children and the human race dies out.

By smoke• 29 Mar 2012 10:31
smoke

Baburao i think your parents didnt send you to school and kept you at home which is why you cant seem to grasp the concept of "anything can happen to anyone at anytime" Blaming the parents here would then imply that your parents should have also kept you at home in a cage..why are you in Qatar then? You think there's no risks in life?

What if the kid got hit by a bus on the way to school? Then what will you say?

By Molten Metal• 29 Mar 2012 10:30
Molten Metal

Wife has a real fear in mind that Husband is here for few years then we are going to be separate, so she does not like to take care of her off spring instead secures her regular skills / profession, future bread & butter.

Because of the set up there , where the above crime had happened.

By Missteacher• 29 Mar 2012 10:30
Missteacher

The parents send their children to a nanny who is paid to do a job. A nanny is meant to look after children no? What is their job title if not.

So if teachers decided not to teach the children ...it would be the parents fault as they sent their kids to school???

Doesnt make sense.

By shisha202• 29 Mar 2012 10:29
shisha202

Missteacher dont forget the fact that almost all the things happening with the childrens out there parents are blamed for poor parenting

By Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte• 29 Mar 2012 10:27
Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte

who send the kids to the nanny MT ? then who is at fault the kids r not the product or property of a nanny to take care of

By Missteacher• 29 Mar 2012 10:26
Missteacher

I disagree BG.

Yes the parents also gave birth to their children but you can not blame the parents for anything that happens to them.

Its the sick nanny who is abusing the children's fault.

By Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte• 29 Mar 2012 10:25
Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte

this is FATE "Well its' take that risk or don't have children" if u cant take care of them better to stay without kids this applies for all

Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte

i think so , the children r parents responsibility or a nannies ? did the nanny give birth or the parents

By Miss Mimi• 29 Mar 2012 10:18
Miss Mimi

Well its' take that risk or don't have children. Like TB said, eventually you have to leave them, whether at school or to go play with a friend. You can't live your life in fear.

By Missteacher• 29 Mar 2012 10:17

so the people who have their childen abused by nannies did it on purpose?

By Miss Mimi• 29 Mar 2012 10:07

BG, most parents will do their best to ensure that their child is in safe hands when they aren't there, but you can't always be 100% sure that something won't happen. You have to take the risk.

By Baburao-Ganpatrao-Apte• 29 Mar 2012 10:05

By Missteacher• 29 Mar 2012 10:03

Yes there are parents who simply work 24/7 and leave the children to be 'brought' up by nannies which is horrendous :( Personally i would not get a nanny to look after my children when I have them unless it was the last resort. Plus my partner would not agree to a nanny im sure.

By Miss Mimi• 29 Mar 2012 10:02

Both parents may have to work. You can't blame the mother or father because they can't stay home and take care of the child.

I agree with you Missteacher that single parents need to work , but i have seen many parents who work for money and not even thinking about their child, i believe in the fact that home should be the first school, n many people doesn't even care about that very fact...
