We can register the rent agreement by ourselves provided we have all the documents ready. I have done it recently. Even though it is the responsibility of the landlord to register, most of them has the attitude of I dont care, if you want, do it for you paying from your pocket.

The charges is 1% of the annual rent provided you register within one month of the start date of tenancy agreement. Delays will be charged on different slabs.

but for commercial or office space rentals and usually, the landlord/owner pays for it.

We did this for our office lease in AMWAL Tower, the owner registered it and they paid the fee, not us (leasee).

Yup! that's true. As a matter of fact I'm experiencing the same situation. Hope they would change this rule.

To get your family visa, your rental agreement needs be registered with the municipality. In 'theory' it's the owner/landlords responsibility to register the agreement. In reality, many of the owners don't do this and there are quite a few properties that this isn't possible for. Any villas that have been split, I don't believe it's possible to register the agreement as it will have been done unofficially.

It's a nightmare situation for people wanting to bring families over at the moment.

Not 100% sure that you can register the lease yourself, but the government charge would be 1% of the annual rent.
