I was wondering if it is possible to rent a 2-3 bhk apartment and use one room as an office. can a company be setup with the tenancy contract of the apartment. If possible, any advise of areas/buildings offering such.
I am a business owner and a real estate agent as well.
Here is the deal, you can make your self an office to privately work from any where in Doha, But..... If you need a company CR "company registration" the government would not approve if the office is located in a residential area.
The office should be in a commercial area where you have other businesses and other offices as neighbors.
If you want to make an office in a residential building, that is ok, no one can stop you from doing anything inside your private 4 walls. But you wont get a license to register your business. If that is what you want, then go ahead its much cheaper and you can work and sleep in the same flat.

Thanks for the insights DohaBrit2011. The office is just for the paperwork for the company setup. the office is not at all required for the business. Pardon me for my ignorance, are all residential flats/apartments/villas in Qatar qualify to be a physical location of an office?
Legally no. That said, people do it. I personally wouldn't recommend moving in until you've received your municipality license and labour quota, but after that, it's unlikely you'll receive another visit. 'IF'you were to get a surprise visit, the fine would be 5,000QR but as far as I'm aware, this would not affect the standing of the company. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your input Scorpio11. I'll just settle with an office space in a commercial building and a separate residential unit!
As you mentioned you are a business owner, I would definitely need advise on how to go about the company setup.
Will PM you if I come across any hurdles!!
