My dear there is a cycle track which starts from right in front of ras abu aboud bridge towards new airport alongside the road and its safe and new track try it......
After dominating the flat stages at January’s Tour de Langkawi, Guardini showed that those five wins were no flash in the pan with an intelligent sprint on Doha’s Al Corniche. sk8clothing
I've been told about a bunch of riders who are on Facebook as qatar cycling community. Organise rides together. Not hard-core road bikers - just for a bit of exercise.
The roads on the Pearl are relatively traffic free. I bike there early Fri & Sat mornings. And there are signs of cycle paths being built in some areas on the Pearl. But right now they've got gaps, holes and other hazards and are unusable.
The waterfront round the Porto Arabia is a wheels-free zone. Pity - early in the mornings it would be a great place for families to ride together. Or skateboarders. Or in-line skaters. But the security guys, who are the only people there early mornings, have instructions it's strictly pedestrians only.
AS MENTIONED BY srasheed... YES WE HAVE A CYCLE PATH IN DOHA... THE ONE IN ASPIRE IS JUST FOR KIDS CYCLE... BUT THE ONE IN NEAR CORNICHE IS A 5 METER TRACK WHICH EVEN HAS PEDESTRIAN LANE FOR WALKERS... ITS A 13.13 KM LONG PATH WHICH ENDS INSIDE THE NEW DOHA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT... IT IS A REAL BEAUTIFUL TRACK WITH SOLAR STUDS LIGHTING THE PATH AND SOLAR LIGHTS ALL WAY LONG... IT IS PAINTED IN GREEN AND WHITE... TRY IT ONCE AND U WILL SAY ITS AMAZING...
I have cycled in a few countries, and love to go out for a ride. I have gone out on the highway as it does have a paved shoulder, and the road is quite nice.
If you love you cycle, bring the bikes. Of course, it is a Middle East car country where almost everyone drives, so you have to deal with a range of drivers, both respectful, and not. Sitting in a car I see people more agressive around me, than if I am on my bicycle. With patience there are always people willing to share the road. If you are on a compound your children riding their bikes around should not be a problem. Like any city you would not take the kids on the main roads, but there are places that I think would be fun, and there are sidewalks on some areas. If you find them you would always regret not having a bike. IT is a great way to see things, exercise, and child development.
The few experiences of I have seen of the driving here have never occurred in the day time when riding a bicycle. But with children of course you are more cautious and choose safer locations. The corniche looks like a nice place to go. I am not sure what the rules are, but here you try things, that seem reasonable until someone stops you. They don't want me, fast cyclist out for some exercise on the corniche, but a leisurely family might be fine. But they seem to pave ample space on the highway, and that is awesome. The parks get super busy at night, but in the day they look spacious.
Comments to cycling as a crazy venture might be from the perspective of drivers. Driving in Qatar can be challenging at times, but cyclist find their space.
If you love to ride with the family, you will find a place... LOL... or it will be built by 2030. Off road there are infinite possibilites.
I would suggest you bring your bike(s). There are bike paths now in selected areas. If you have an MTB, there areas just outside the city where you could trail ride.
Biking between June to August is difficult due to summer. Some bike in the evening, but the heat and humidity is still high.
I wouldn't risk cycling on the roads, I drive a 4x4 like most others here, mainly for safety as the laws are not adhered to, or people are just ignorant and don't know any better. I would consider cycling in Aspire Park though, this could be an option.
Not only cars go off-road, but bicycles as well. Some of my friends are actually quite serious about offroad cycling.... If you can somehow get your family to participate, it should be quite an interesting experience.
as a hobby you can do cycling in aspire park or in some compounds but as a transporting device no way, and anyway in my opinion its not worth bringing cycle all the way from where u r coming, alternatively you can buy cheap cycle here in less than Q.R.300.
You wouldn't want to cycle in this traffic environment - no cycle paths or respect for cyclists. That being said there are one or two cycling clubs you could contact for accurate info but you would have to google for them.
Smaller kids ride their bikes inside their compounds.

Just about to check them out...

A decent bike here is quite expensive.

If your are suicidal, go ahead.
I would not advise it. Motorists here still do not have a sense to cater for cyclists.

do you have a date for the cycleways?
As part of the major rebuild and refurbishment of the main roads and Expressways cycleways are to be added to most main roads.
As an example a cycleway is to be added to Route 1 North Road for almost its entire length
I think aspire only lets small kids cycle
Aspire park has bike lanes
no bike lanes. Too risky I tell you.
