Doha Intl' Airport Occurence
Guys I've been observing an airplane, probably a Boeing 737-800 or Airbus 320 circling the West Bay area and landing on RWY16 over 4 times. What I also observed is that the plane lands, then accelerates and takes off. It then turns left 180Deg and then heads back towards the Inter Continental and West Bay area, then turns left 180Deg and lines up with RWY16 and lands and then repeats the same thing all over again. I saw it between 13:50 and 14:20 today. I donno if its still doing it. An Emirates flight landed while this plane was circling over West Bay.
I just grew curious while having my lunch and also suspicious about whats going on at my office cafeteria.
Any one knows whats all this? Guys from Airline companies at the Airport would likely know. Cheers!
Yes saw the low flying Aircraft on Friday around midday..:)
Its a 'Touch and Go' and a 'Go Around' training procedure. It teaches pilots to be able to full throttle their engines incase of a missed approach.
Pretty sure it was a Qatar Airways training session.

Yesterday, Runway 16 was in use and Aircraft were getting vectors for Left Base to Runway 16....
It is called Touch and Gos, Its soo fun doing that, specially on 320s....
If there was no livery on that particular 320, then its a Amiri Aircraft....
Touch and go training.. The instructor wants to know how smooth you landed the aircraft and how fast you 'kill' the tires..

As you explained it look a test flight.
It could have been calibrating the ILS for runway 16. They do this periodically on all runways worldwide due to the shift of the earths magnetic pole.
I don't agree to it that this plane was given priority over other scheduled aircraft. I saw myself that this plane flew slowly over the port area and then depending upon available slot to land, would turn over the Qtel Tower to line up or go further ahead towards West Bay to allow other aircraft in the pattern to land. I saw an Emirates flight landing while this one followed shortly afterwards. A few times it simply turned over Sheraton and landed.

It was an Amiri aircraft. It was doing some touch and go at the RWY this afternoon. Probably for maintenance or for training new pilots. Either way, it was being given priority for its activities on the RWY as ATC was holding about 2 aircrafts at a time during landing and take off of Amiri aircraft.
Perhaps they were not sure whether they wanted to go ahead and Land after gearing about the goings on at the Pearl ..
Taliban do not require any landing skills, so it's not them.
That was part of Taliban's practical exam for hiring.

Drsam: Having spent more than three hours in the pattern around an airfield I can tell you for a fact that "touch and go" while they can be used for testing an aircraft it is also used for crew proficiency. Saves time and money to load a plane up with a bunch of pilots who need the time.

It works both ways. I have seen Rizks practice brake and go manoeuvres at the Ramada in his Mahindra Jeep..
Just a pilot (or more than one) getting some air time training with an instructor pilot.

Yes exactly dude! I thought of describing it but felt otherwise. Are you saying you know something abt it? Its entire body was white with a silver band over its front section.

The aircraft in question didn't have any identifiable livery on it.
But it did make a few low passes over the Qtel building and Sheraton to line up with the runway to land so the training theory may be true.
Just Test flight. Dont worry.
