So I'm curious to know where do you stand in the arguemnet of separation of church and state in order to have a functioning state and to avoid clashes or civil war, and how good/bad secularism.
Civil war can't be avoided if the people in charge are corrupt & a menace to society though it's easier to question a rule of man than a rule of God interpreted by a greedy man...
anonyalkult: this thread is about "separation of church and state", and not about my goat is better than your cow so off with the kind of gullible and off-track arguments!
Well. Here is my take on the subject. I believe that there’s a Potential for some kind of allegiance between Western “alter-globalization”, Secularsim and Islamic teaching and movements.
This allegiance should be based on their shared rejection of the dominant western discourse; materialism.
Obviously, people fearing secularism must look beyond what the State/religious sponsored TV/Press and politicians tell them it’s, in order to understand the real and true meaning and functions of a Secular state and dispel their fears
That is not true revo, only some minor groups like brothers, salafis and shias oppose this separation. Saudi Arabia and Iran are the only countries with such political system. Others are secular for all practical purposes.
So some want to smash the state, tax the church and spare the childern.
However all of you seems to agree with the idea of the separation of the church and state which is intersting, because it's in the Middle East where many oppose securalism and the notion of the church and state being separate, additionaly they see this idea is a threat to Islam and those who try to imply this concept are brainwashed by the west and ofcourse the bad guys: America
I believe separation of religion and state was the accomplishment of Islam. In olden times kings claimed divinity and popes wielded political power. Both these show a inter-mixing of politics and religion. But Islam separated religion and science, put reason on a high pedestal, abolished many superstitions, and promulgated freedom of faith which are all the fundamentals of modern day secularism. But secularism is not to be confused with irreligion as many do today.
In a way separation of church and state is a misnomer. People are the government and people are often religious. The church can have a fire put out by the Fire Department; it does not need its own fire truck.
However, the idea is really that the pro-secularism people do not want laws and policies to be made on the basis of theology. They don’t want pastors, priests, preachers, and bishops to write the laws or to have any more influence than other citizens.
And honestly, I do not think Jefferson and Madison would approve of all of the prayer breakfasts and other governmental religious services in our times.
I think they would be against at preachers coming to the White House to do private religious services for the Obamas at taxpayer expense. They would certainly reject the power and money of TV preachers and their influence on government.

The Religion in the sight of Allah is Islam." (Qur'an 3:19).
So it is only religion
no. i'm none
whats maududi and what kind of brother? and why do u want to know?
drsam so you are maududi or brother?
In fact the Muslim polymath Ibn Rushd is considered the father of secularism, you can check in wikipedia
anonyalkut, i disagree: al islam deenon wa dawla (islam is religion and politics).
There is a need for secular/ecclesiastical separation but that should not include a separation in our behavior as people with faith.
totally separated, and yes, why not tax the religious institutions? they are sucking people's money after all.
and definitly spare the children (sexually and brain washing)

Church and State should be separate.
