2 kids drowned. - anyone heard of it
Manama: Two children have drowned as they were playing near a swimming pool in Qatar, according to a newspaper report.
The four-year-old boy and two-year-old girl were found after a frantic search by their families who were sitting together, Al Sharq daily said. No further details were available.
The deaths prompted calls to ensure proper safety measures are in place to save lives, the Qatari newspaper said.

why report half baked news if one doesnt have the details
exactly my 'sarcastic' point...
I have the same problem around my house - little kids running past my house barking at my dogs, which in turn causes my dogs to bark - aggrevating the neighbors... grrrr...
Was helping my friend with a late animal relocation and got home one morning at 4am to find one of these little brats running past my gate rattling it.... what the hell was he doing out at 4am?
I see that around here quite often too. My worst cases are: 1)Kids unstrapped in a car, bouncing around and even standing!
2)Kids sitting in the front seats of the car.
3)A kid running(yes running) on the wall around the corniche
4)A lady in my building who allows her tiny lil cute as a button 3/4 year old girl to go to the shops and play on the street unattended.
5)ETC
Like the saying goes "Trust in God but tie your camels"
fatimah - yes, they have paid the ultimate price for lack of care and I do truly feel sorry for them BUT when will some parents take some personal responsbility for their children? I am not specifically talking about this case, as we do not know all the facts but about things that happen and we see every day here.
Children not strapped into cars, Children hanging out of windows and sun roofs, children allowed to play around pools with little of no supervision.
We had a very naughty child on our compound (only 7 years old) who would roam it day and night - 11pm often or not. She would also bang on my door wanting to play with my son at this time of night - her mother (she was a lone parent) was never around. She also vandalised my car and when I approached the mother about it, she said it was not her little girl who had done it but offered to pay for it anyway - of course it was her child. It all culminated in her and her little friend playing around the pool until one fell in and appeared to be drowning and someone I knew jumped in to save her. Suffice to say her mother was nowhere to be seen.
Why should God watch over your children if you are not willing to do the same yourself?
Tragic news indeed...my condolences to their parents and loved ones..losing your children, and that too in such a terrible way must truly be devastating. Undoubtedly if they have been careless then they have by far paid a heavy due and may this be a lesson to many. May God grant them both paradise..Aameen!
Quite BE - but unfortunately a lot of families rely on maids who cannot swim/life guards at resorts who are ignored and blame them when things go wrong.
As I said vigilance is the watchword and expecting other people to do it for you is not appropriate.
RIP little ones.
Whilst I agree with your point about warning signs, surely the key thing is that the parents have the responsibility and duty to ensure the safety of their offspring.
It should be made a legal requirement that any pool not privately owned should have warning signs up.
you dont find any signboards in the private pools...
Most parents do not know to read these type of signboards.
Vigilance from the parents is the watchword - there should be more signs up at pools saying it is the parents responsibility to keep an eye on the children in and around the pool
khanan it could be in the fine print - who knows
the news is true we know those people goodness help their families :( tragic loss
It quote it source as "Al Sharq" but reported from Manama Bureau Office ???
Shouldn't it be Doha??
I am searching Al Sharq previous copies and no such news found?
TB - Correctomundo
It was their responsiblity to look after them.
Al Sharq would be my guess JJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJJ
I have to say, I am always a little surprised about some parents attitudes with their kids around water here - I will forebear to mention a nationality as it just turns into a slanging match.
Recently went to a well known hotel here and witnessed a bunch of kids in the small jacuzzi (should not have been in there anyway) - about 7 in all, far too many, messing about. Not such a problem except some large (and by this, I mean fat - but that is a debate for another day) bombing into the jacuzzi onto the smaller children - often head first. a) this is dangerous for himself b)could have seriously injured the smaller children.
This went on all afternoon, the poor life guard kept blowing his whistle and indicating for them to stop but they just ignored him. And no doubt, if something had happened, the parents would point an accusing finger at the life guard for failing to protect their children but what was he supposed to do?
in general swimming pools at homes are unsupervised...
Indeed TCOM. My statement was satirical in the sense that children should not be allowed near a pool unsupervised, especially that young. So what I was actually asking was why weren't they supervised?
I also notice at the bottom of the news item:-
'Several homes in Qatar have private swimming pools.'
And from this I deduce that it was a private pool that was unsecured.
The four-year-old boy and two-year-old girl were found after a frantic search by their families who were sitting together.
the report has been taken from Al Sharq, according to Gulf News.
whatever be the case it is still 2 young lives lost....
Sad News...May Allah Almighty bless everyone...
A tragic loss. May the little ones rest in peace and may their parents find solace..
timebandit, I think you meant where were the maids/nannies?
TB - nah - other stuff happens that we don't know about, not just about locals.
Speculating... but I am guessing if this happened, it was local families that suffered this tragedy. And that is why it has not been reported locally.
It might or might not have happened but Qatar being Qatar one will never know.
If true, it is a very sad story indeed and must be truly heartbreaking for the partents.
Arien you're right!
The News might be true, but the way they publish it extremely non professional.
Gulfnews should diversify and start fish shops in te wholesale market
