I thought that perhaps, because it is not a public road, you would not need a licence to drive on it.  Looks like those in charge of the site have imposed their own restrictions though.

well sir, you got to explain your doubt, i.e. what do you mean by airport comples?

for driving in the site, you need 3 things:

1) Project/Site Driving Permit training & short exam/quiz

 2) A valid Qatari Driving License

 3) After you have those two, you apply for a Project Driving License Permit, cause with out this one, you are not permitted to drive in the site or the project area!

So bottom-line, you do need a qatari driving license ;) Any more doubts?

Of course, life in Doha without a car would be a bit miserable.  Can you drive in the airport complex with no driving licence? 

What Ms. MaryCatherine is saying is very true. All the construction companies, contractors, consultants etc. are provided a good deal of accomodation as per the ranks they serve. And yeah, you don't need to worry at all for the distance between your location. and the construction site or NDIA project office.

Why I say so is because there are thousands of buses, excellent A\C equipped pick-ups, mini-vans and cars etc. that commute daily between the camp and the site offices. All of these drivers are literally PAID to transport people for free :). If you are in a pretty good and top position, you can also request for a driver for yourself! Give it a try!

 Its not the accomodations and other stuffs that hurt, its the HEAT ! I guess this year's summer heat gets more troublesome, due to random changes in humidity levels..that's all.

So far as I know, Bechtel engineers/senior managers are housed in a block of flats - sorry, no idea where.  They used to be in a building near my own but left because of lack of maintenance issues with the property manager - the building was OK, the upkeep (getting appliances repaired, lights fixed, lack of proper security, etc) was the reason I was told they left when the contract expired.

I have known people who worked for Bechtel in other countries, they do try to take good care of their people - and a good standard of housing is usually the norm

that's brilliant.  I am told that the accmmodation on offer for me is an apartment - looks to me from photograph that there is only huts there.  Is te Bechtel accommodation within walking distance of the Project Office? 

Bechtel accomodation is in the camp area of the NDIA project. There are seperate accomodations for labors, managers, officers etc or so. Their office is in the NDIA site. They are the main consultant for the NDIA project. The rest of all falls under either main contractors or sub-contractors. Any more questions?

Thanks,  Not in Qatar yet and no offer of employment but am just in the application process at the moment.  There is a building tagged on Wikimapia which is called the NDIA Project Office.  I think that will be it but will have to make sure.
