Residency Visa Process Steps - 12 weeks???

Hi Everyone,

I am from USA and I have a job waiting in Qatar.

I have a question about getting the documents processed for obtaining a Qatar residency permit.

This is what I understand that I need to do, but please correct me if I am wrong:

1.       Get a police clearance certificate from my home state in USA.  – 2 weeks……

2.       Have it certified (authentication) by my state government, Secretary of State in Alabama. – 2 weeks…..

3.       Send this to the certified document to the US Department of state to get authentication – Up to 8 weeks….

4.       Send this document to the Qatar Embassy in Washington D.C. up to ?? weeks….

5.       Now it says I must take it to the Consular Affairs Section and get another authentication. I assume same day……

All in all it seems like a 10 to 12 week process. Is this time estimate true?

Can steps 4 and 5 be done in Qatar?

Thanks,

Ken

Just from what I was told by the employer:

They are applying for the work visa now and it may take a little while to complete. While we are waiting on this work visa to process in Qatar, I should obtain a police certification from the US.

This police certification will need to go through the “long” US process of authentication. Having the US authenticated police certification is required when applying for the Qatar residency visa.

Qatarisun when you said "..start blaming qatar even before coming here.." seemed to be the first rude comment posted... since there was nobody blaming Qatar so it was only a misunderstanding on your part. Simple mistake but its ok.. no problem

Well, No one is giving you orders. same as no one is blamming Qatar, He asked & it should be a proper answere, & regarding nasty remarks if you say some then you will hear also. Stop reacting like rude. Its also not up to you to say anything, I hope you better understand.

QE, I don't pull his tail, and guess what, it's not up to you to judge answers, and you better do not give me the orders, whether to be cool or not, if you don't want to run into one of my very nasty remarks, which i am good in... better read the post, including the title, carefully and you will see that time of obtaining Police clearance in USA is directly connected to Residency Visa processing timing, while these two have nothing in common. got it?

I don't think anybody here is blamming Qatar. Be Cool Qatarsun, Answere if you like but don't pull his tail.

I agree... the problem is in the USA...... with the time required for gettting the doc's.

Nobody here in this topic has blamed Qatar, for the problems of the USA

well, what a procedure of obtaining a police clearance in USA has to do with the Qatar Residency Visa Process timing ?? I guess, the time frames for obtaining a police clearance in USA are set by the USA government, not by the qatari one.. it takes 12 weeks to follow the procedure established in USA by USA.. what qatar has to do with that?..start blaming qatar even before coming here..

It certainly can take that long. However, if you use a document expediter the time can be significantly shortened. Cost is about $500.Mandi

Just did not expect it to take me 12 weeks to get the documents from America in order to go to Qatar and start working....

I think what you have to do is getting your police clearance and your educational certificate ( depends on job level) attested from the ministry of foreign affairs and the qatari embassy. once you send these docs to your employer here  in Qatar you will get the visa within 3 days.

Ken,I think what you have listed above is actually what one needs to obtain the entry work visa. The residency permit (RP) process will actually start when you are here in Qatar.
