You've got to be kidding me!
Qatar interested in hosting 2016 Tour de France start
(Reuters) - Qatar, buoyed by a successful bid to host the 2022 soccer World Cup, is interested in staging the start of the 2016 Tour de France.
"His highness (the Emir) has had this idea in mind for quite a while. They have started the discussions and the process," a source with close ties to the government said, asking not to be identified.
State-owned Qatar Airways was the official airline for this year's Tour, won Sunday by Australian Cadel Evans.
Next year's race will depart from Liege, Belgium, while Corsica is set to kick off the 100th Tour in 2013.
In 2007 it began in London, in 2010 it was in Rotterdam while Florence is bidding to become the first Italian city to host the Grand Depart in 2014.
Barcelona, Edinburgh and cities in England, Netherlands, Germany and Austria have all expressed an interest in hosting future starts.
None of those include the logistical and meteorological challenge of a start in the middle east, where the searing July heat would pose a challenge for the riders and almost certainly ensure a short stage or time trial.
"I think there are options to manage it. We can have a small prologue, not too long, with water sprayed at certain points. There is no technical problem with doing it here," a source said, confirming that the bid would be for 2016, not 2014 as reported on some cycling websites.
The Abu Dhabi international triathlon, featuring a 200km bike leg, has been held in UAE in March since 2010 and attracts many of the world's best triathletes. This year temperatures were way above the seasonal norm and many top rides struggled.
frenchie, you've nailed it...what a wonderful explanation !!
sorry, yes I forgot I was on Al Jazeera
Easy enough for the impersonator to clear things up. I'm betting on a no show. Any takers?
what a post!..lovely twists & turns :)
time to hold back a little and re-think!
fox news ;) LOL:)
yesterday on TV you said it
Cabbage - when did I say that Cheated was not a Qatari?
now shoo fly? hahahameaningless in Arabic too?
I know I am right, but thank you for finally having the decency to admit it. Now shoo fly and stop soiling a good man's name.
you are right Bachus
Yes but only one by the full name you claimed and named on another thread. ROFL.Quick, go delete that post too.
hahaha they are now seraching sultan al thani on google! ;)guys there are more than 500 sultan al thanis!amazing :)
http://sheikhsultanbinsuhaim.com/bio.aspx
Maybe someone should send the real Shiekh links to this. Anybody know him. or how to get hold of him.I did contemplate sending this to another high level Al-thani that i have very good relations with, just to show him that this "Sultan of Doha" is shaming his family.
Shiekh Sultan Al Thani? This is insulting!!!! I know Shiekh Sultan Al Thani, and this imposter is not this man. Shiekh Sultan Al Thani woudl not go to this forum to make his complaints about paint and the cars he keeps. What trivia this would be for him. Besides Shiekh Sultan Al Thani is model of politeness. No whay he say such filthy things in public AND PUT HIS OWN NAME TO IT. He is also personally a private gentleman.Mods why is this person still in QL? Britexpat is right. Kindly remove this thread and him from QL. Otherwise consequences are sure to follow when the real Shiekh Sultan Al Thani learns of this.
well I just cross check the case and found that there is an issue between the said Sheikh and Audi/Saad Buzwair..
well I am not Judging here anyone based on their comments...
The prob Britexpat is that he's on other thread threatening QLers with violence. TFS Khanan, but this guy is the not Shiekh. Sorry dude, but read his posts (at least the ones he has not deleted himself already). Shiekh Sultan Al Thani is a reasonably accomplished person, and VG5 says. He's not going to get on QL and do this (especially by putting his name on it for all to see). And Genesis would not have told the guy off on another thread if he thought he was for real. He's probably some guy who new about the Audi case and is having his own back against the Shiekh by impersonating him. Either way it's bad.And Khanan. The only mud slinger is this impersonator.
KhananDuh. It's already established there is such a person as Shiekh Sultan Al Thani. Just google him. This person on QL is NOT him, which has also been established and is why people are getting upset.Google Shiekh Sultan Al Thani and read about this accomplished person. Then read some of cheated's posts on QL. Are you really so obtuse to think it's the same person? Do you really think a person of that stature would be so low as to be cheated by Audi? Do you really think a person of that stature would get on QL, identify himself as this man, call himself "THE SULTAN OF DOHA" and then call people "butt-buddies" and threaten them publicly? If you still think cheated is for real then you may start addressing us as HRH Queen Elizabeth.
TFS..
I think that rather than get into personal abuse, the MODS should close this thread now :O(
cabbage, for someone who constantly claims to love this place so much, you know precious little about it & more importantly it's people, because if you did,you would know that:-
1) no REAL member of the royal family here would get on an internet forum(public, private,English,Arabic whatever) & complain about how the Audi dealership conned them.
2) Even Saad Buzwair(the Audi dealership) aren't stupid enough to try & con a customer whose last name is AL THANI.
There is a very small possibility that this guy is Qatari but even that is doubtful,as for being a member of the royal family,no way,you do notice how he hasn't directly addressed or defended that claim even once, choosing instead to redirect it as "oh you think i'm not Qatari",that he may be but even that isn't just black & white...there are Qataris & then there are QATARIS...you catch my drift?...
So in my humble opinion(& as i knew all along),despite claiming your undying love for this place, you obviously don't REALLY know much about the place or it's people...so what is it you love so much about it?...the big,fat,tax-free paycheck that your husband (& you, if you're employed) earn/s?...well guess what? that's what i (& a lot of others here) love about this place too!...only difference is,we choose to be honest about it...so i cannot help but ask again,do you really care or are you just "stepping on toes to elicit a reaction"?...
just for info..
Shiekh Sultan Al Thani is a Qatari and is from Royal Family. A quick cross-check with Saad Buzwair through a colleague confirms his case and term it as a misunderstanding between the client and the agent....
Now carry On with your mud-slugging and personal insults...
Tour de France in Qatar! Amazing....
LOL Lost in Space. Very kind of you :)Exactly Bachus. I agree 100 per cent. What is even worse is he posts obscenities and then after people tell him off, he goes back and changes his post. Look at all the time stamps on his posts as evidence. Few are in sequence with the rest of the thread.
@Cabbage Because he is not. On another thread he gave his name as "Sultan of Doha" and said he was a member of the royal family. And by the way he's behaving he is insulting Qataris and the royal family by pretending to be one. Surely you have enough respect for this country and the royal family that you would not believe a member of the royal family would get on QL and call people "gaylord", "butt-buddy", make threats. talk about spitting on others, etc. etc. etc. etc.If you love Qatar like you say, then you of all people should be condemning this fraudster. I have mixed feelings about Qatar but even I think what he is doing is shameful and insulting to Qataris (the worst kind of Qatar bashing). People like him give QL a bad name.
JJ you said to somebody earlier - how can you say I am a White Westerner? Nobody can prove I am black or white. So why join in with saying that cheated is not a Qatari? You were insulted by a person assuming you were white- so why cannot he/she not be insulted by you lot of baying bullies? You cannot be sure he is not a local.I do get it though - it is the Lemming mindset. How sad.
gadarene, But this is our money. We are free to invest the way we want. Like what is your deal? Do you like people telling you how to spend your money?
:) thanks guys
and the goal is?
Oh Thanks :)
Thank you very much
hahaha sure
I have looked through the internet especially for you and have found two groups that may be of help, please take my advice and dont take this as an insult. The groups are:
myownlittleworld.com & ireallyamaqatariinmydreams.com
If you feel that you need any further help dont hesitate to contact:
whyamisuchanarse.com!
good luck priend!
I'm with Genesis. The guy is claiming to be the 'Sultan of Doha' on another thread. This is just plain ridiculous, and he's making Qataris (by pretending to be one) look bade and Qatar Living with it.As Genesis points out LOTS and LOTS of people are just on reading mode when it comes to QL.Mods: Please wake-up!
You are probably even dumber than flor and that takes some doing!!!
This is getting lame & distasteful Allow me to remind you that QL is the most popular Internet forum in Qatar. While not many post here, it’s certainly read by hundreds. Such discussion can only lead to polarization & prejudice. Let’s not forget that just last year QL was under attack & had an anti QL FB group
this is Qatar! I rememebr PM! All her posting have sense!
This is still going? Careful FM he sounds like he's looking for a date in the last post and after all those gay references he's been making . . . ROFL is right.I'm with you for once Olympics. The guy is insulting the people he is trying to imitate their going to get POed at QL for letting him (as they should).
Frenchie can be insulting but bigger insult here is cheeterbyaudi. No Al-Thani would carry himself in this way in public and say is his Al-Thani. Such foul words and insult is not becoming of them as anyone who is living in Qatar knows. You insult them with your behavior and lies. MODs please deal with this imposter and insulter of the Royal Family of Qatar. I am not threatening personally but MODs there could be consequences to letting this QLer to continue in this way.
Very good FM! Glad to see you are sticking round long enough to humble this idiot. Give it up cheated. NO ONE THINKS YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE QATARI ROYAL FAMILY!!! You are mostly likely a bullied kid who gets his jollies attempting to act like a man on QL. Has it not occurred to you that if you were soooooo important you would not be advertising how Audi Qatar cheated you, cause they would not have dared to do so?
Sorry Cheater, but I don't date men. You'll have to cruise for a piece of a** elsewhere. ROFL.But seriously, go ahead send me a PM, and if I decide to read it I might send you a time and place that is conducive to my schedule.
@ cheated,i'm not here to "get credit",i'm here to state my opinion,if you didn't really think what you said didn't constitute a personal threat to me,kindly explain to us why you deleted that post???...seeing as you're having some difficulty in grasping the concept of a debate,if i may,a debate has those FOR & those AGAINST...those that are FOR are always FOR & likewise for those that are AGAINST,they do NOT switch hot/cold going sometimes for & sometimes against, does that make any sense to you?...i'm here for the money i earn tax-free,that is what i like about this place along with the climate in the winter season,i have mentioned that on numerous occasions but you either chose not to read or ignore it...
It's not my fault that there are so many issues here on so many levels that warrant criticism,if you can't deal with that or are not used to having anyone tell you honestly what they feel, that is YOUR issue to deal with, don't take it out on us...
As for me,unfortunately for you, there aren't & NEVER will be enough of your own people qualified as medical professionals to serve the needs of the population of this country,i'm serving the community(BOTH local & expat) through my work for which i get paid...so kindly get off your high horse(or the Audi you got conned into buying) & see reality for what it is...& may i add,i interact with a significant number of members of the royal family in my line of work & not ONCE have i come across one that talks like you,so please excuse us if we find that a bit hard to believe...
Your a right plonker Cheated, stop emabrrassing yourself on here, you might be Qatari but you are NO royal (although I did have a good laugh at that one)...if you are in fact a Qatari you give your fellow countrymen and women a bad name...
Dont make me start... I have a lot to say... But let me keep quite.. Its better for u,
Btw if in case u are al thani... Then wich grade...
Hey cheated... What u wanna prove here... Whats wrong with comments of frenchie? What he told wrong, today if qatar is in such a good position, its just because of the expats, if we were not here, u ppl wud still be in deserts, playing with camels, we shud not be, but you guys shud be thank ful to us, Now look even to this current medium, qatarliving, made by whom? An expat, who is managing, organizing it? An Expat.. U ppl are good for nthing .. And then u ppl talk like this.. And expect good behavior from our end... Naaaaaaaa... We do respect.. But of those who are respectable, not the people like you... Now get life and be careful... We The expats are present every where n ur country... Dont let us make u down..
If it's personal encounter, than you better not generalize and say A LOT!
I've been tracking xenophobia in our society for the past 4 years. while there is huge feeling of resentment among conservatives over women dress code & the less fortunate Qataris over westerners higher salary packages, this have never developed into hostility. Even with other Arab/ south asia expats, it's that ethnic , tribal, & sectarian barriers, that I wouldn't consider it a large scale xenophobia. As it's concentrated among the less educated.
jjj75... if frenchiemen can share his experiences I dont see why you should hesitate in posting the disrespect part... moreso when being a westerner you are otherwise under general immunity for your opinion(s), irrerspective. They may be more of help to otherwise not priviledged expats.
Very true jjj75. Sad, but very true indeed.
yeh this whole, "if you dont like it, leave" & " you dont do what i tell you, i cancel your visa" is getting really old now.Not worth all the hassle jjj75
F/Man, I can expand on this of course but I don't want the naysayers to start off another pointless debate and it feels like groundhog day.
Either they will deny completely or they will just say if you don't like it leave.
Cheers, Genesis. Always happy to write an insightful post :-) jjj75--my experience (outside of drive, of course) has been that locals tend to be very courteous, both in public and private. There are of course, plenty of exceptions. I am also a well-educated, white, male with a the "right" accent when i speak English, and my business dealings with locals tend to be as relative equals. I am sure for some it is different, and my maid has strong opinions on the subject. There is some pushiness and entitlement at the malls and in lines, but then that happens in various forms in other places. My wife also points out that Qatari men are less likely to stare than other nationalities. My primary objection is the vulgarity uttered in Arabic under the breath of Abaya-wearing (presumably the majority of whom are local) at Western women--usually it calling them sluts and Jews. I'm not fluent in Arabic, but I understand enough to know what they are muttering. I hear this at least once a week--more if I am in the grocery. Interestingly the women who say such things are either alone, with maids, or children (which is terrible); almost never have I seen their husbands, brothers, or fathers with them, so presumably they would not approve.
Genesis, I was responding to someone else comments. I have had many instances of great kindness and respect shown to me and my friends. I have also seen and experienced the reverse.
There are few records of locals getting hostile with foreigners ( in particularly westerners), and it mostly involves road rage. While the driving etiquette is a problem, but it's not limited to certain nationality
You said A LOT. Thus, please elaborate.
Unless you have nothing to contribute & just posted that inadvertently
Genesis, now that is a provocative statement and opens up a real can of worms. Do you genuinely want me to give expamples or do you want to open up another pointeless debate where people will deny things and become offended?
Care to clarify, in what aspect locals do not treat expats with respect ?
Cheated - the part about 'we treat you with respect' is hard to swallow. yes some do treat expats with respect but there are a lot that don't - be careful when you generalise
Thank you for an insigthful post.
"Don't blame the expatriates for living as they are invited to do. If you don't like it, take it up with the government"
Here is what many don't seem to acknowledge
I agree with the above. No way cheatedbyaudiqatar is who he says. He's wayyyy too vulgar. Probably the same little man who creates IDs just to post a few obscenities before being deleted. And totally in violation of QL rules--calling names, vulgarity, threats to other members. Come on Mods!
well said Bachus....this dude is as likely to be royalalty as Qatar will have snow in August! Some sad loser living in fanatsy land....
@cheatedbyaudiqatar Get over yourself dude. No one believes your fake ID, and kissing up is not going to get the government to give you citizenship. ROFL.@at FM and gadarene Let it go fellas. He's the same dude that creates IDs to post obscenities at the mods. Did it twice this morning already. He's fake, so no point engaging.
Cheatedbyaudiqatar--1. Stop pretending to be something your not--i.e. a member of the Qatari royal family. True members of the establishment would never get on QL, declare they are royal, and then use terms like "butt-buddy".2. Stop pretending that expats "owe" you something. Like you, we're paid wages for our services. For many of us, these wages supplements existing wealth; it is not the sole source of our wealth. 3. Get over the whole Qatar dream thing. Qatar as a state is not "offering a better live for our families". Its companies, institutions, government ASKS/pleads with some us to come to Qatar, offering a variety of incentive packages.4. Expats owe our companies our services; in exchange we are paid. We are obliged to obey the rules of the country we are in; in exchange it is obliged to offer us those protections promised by the constitutions, which include equal protection under the law.5. Most professional have a range of choices. Those who are here selected Qatar for a variety of reasons. YOU should be grateful they did, because as much as you whine about expats, without them this country would be entirely unable to fulfill its ambitions and would look a lot like it did in the 1980s. But then maybe that is what you want.6. Inviting so many expats puts pressures on local cultures. Deal with it. It's part of the bargain those who rule Qatar (i.e. NOT YOU) made in order to entice expats here to develop the country. They can close the borders as any time, or severely restrict personal freedoms as they see fit, but the comeback is that the quality and number of professional expats will decline--it's a balancing act. In consequence, the Qatari government has substantially liberalized the nation, allowing Christian churches, relaxing dress codes, inviting a variety of Western stores, allowing alcohol, women drivers, English to become the dominant language, etc. etc. Don't blame the expats for living as they are invited to do. If you don't like it, take it up with the government or move to Saudi.7. I may be young, but it turns out I'm very good at what I do, and I generate a great deal of wealth for those with whom I consult. I'm only in the country for about half the year, and eventually I won't be at all. The point was to get some brief experience working in the Arab world to add to my collection.8. When asked in casual conversation, I've always spoken freely of my views about Qatar or anything else. And the only people who have ever complained are those who hide behind false identities on anonymous chat sites. But then the people I'm referring to are REAL Qataris, who are well educated and thoughtful, and they are aware of their country's limitations and hopeful for its future. Finally, if you actually did read all my posts, you'd know that I have written very good things about Qatar, particularly those who actually govern it and manage it from a senior level.
Listen, no need to re-post what i told you. It will not get you any credit in here. My point is simple that a 4 years old can get it.You and few others in here (FM, Yourself, Raven, and few others ) Only say negative things about Qatar. This is not a debate. A debate is a fair point of view that reflects the good and the bad not just continious negativity and bashing against our laws, traditions, politics, way we invest. Who da hell you guys think you are?Why don't you stick to what you do best and let others stick at what they do best?I don't care what your logic is, you are free to have it but you are our guests in here. We do treat you with respect, pay you what you deserve and more, and allow you to live in a peaceful invornment. We deserve some respect too. Enough hatred, enough smart A. Comments and eough sarcasm and hyporicy. If you really hate it, you really do not have to stay in here.. Others are Dying to come to Qatar and work.People like Frenchie Man, i mean the guy is what 20? i just looked at his age earlier.. Does this guy really think he knows it all?I represent only a fraction of people who say what we think about your posts. In fact i was never into posting replies and i thought it is pretty stupid but this is getting very annoying. You are a professional, is this how you act at your job? You don't like it? Leave it!These are OUR RULES, OUR CULTURAL behaviors, OUR TRADITIONS! and we like them the way they are! Who is forcing you to stay if you can not take it?
@ cheated, your post @ 10:10am read "gadarene this is my country",that didn't seem like it was deleted so i replied to it & asked you a question, one you haven't answered...your 'invitation to coffee' was a personal threat plain & simple, doesn't matter what you call it...this is an OPEN, PUBLIC forum,on which one will come across BOTH positive & negative reactions, that is clearly a concept beyond your grasp...i have a right to state my honest opinion as much as anyone else here, they may differ from yours but that is the nature of debate...I don't know about you,but i'm just stating my opinion here because that's what a forum is for,i don't in any way think mine or anyone else's opinion is going to change or affect in any way things work or change the Government's policy...i don't know about you but i'm not here to stage a revolution,i'm just here to state my opinion & there is no rule stated anywhere that says that opinion must be a positive one...you're not here to change my way of thinking & i'm not here to change yours,we are BOTH entitled to our opinions & if they differ,so be it,nothing wrong with that...
It seems the word IMPOSSIBLE doesn't imply here...Everything is possible by this small gulf country.:))
has also been tarnished by the terrible two!! :0(
@ genesis,if Mr. Audi would do things properly, misunderstsndings wouldn't arise, the guy posted @ 10:10 this morning,"gadarene this is my country..." my post was specifically in reply to that,if that was a deleted post, why didn't he just delete the whole thing?...if you notice the time of my posts,as a matter of principle,i don't go online while i'm @ work unless it is for work ONLY so i didn't realize he deleted his previous posts...small misunderstanding,as for provoking, the loser was threatening me with "i'll have to call you out for coffee & a chat after i find you",i don't see how he could be provoked anymore than that!...
....
An interesting thought, as per NASA and all those that have been in the middle east for more than 5 years have definately seen an increase in temperatures every year.In Kuwait almost every year the mecrcury seemed to rise 1 degree, or more. When i first arrived in Kuwait (2003)we averaged around 45c-48c during the hot summer months, now we are looking more like 50c -53c +. if right now Doha is averaging between 43-45 what will we be looking at in 2020??Have a look at NASA`s temperature trend graphs and you will see its just rising.http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/ Soon enough even the parts of the world that never reach 40`s will be way over that, look at the recent Indian heat wave, very good example.
transfer the location? And put to the FIFA LAWS that hot nations could not and would not be permitted to bid for any summer games? FIFA should specifiy that only the "cool" nation can bid for football game. And FIFA should sanctioned or reprimand hot nations doing football games during summer in their nations since they should have a control of all football clubs as FIFA is the governing body, right? Why NOT abolished totally football in hot countries?WAs this the over-all goal?
So what if French don't want their precious race in Qatar. Better for Qatar then to sponsor its own race. It will be better anyway as all things in world's richest country must be. So take your race and go Frenchieman and take the faker cheaterbyaudi with you!
Flor you are quite clearly not a football fan....the Qatar bid has some serious flaws which were highlighted by the bid committee, this wasn't been negative about Qatar just stating facts...the heat is a serious issue for players and fans alike
flor1212
I can tell that you don't work in the medical profession
What about the un-athletic spectators? Let them suffer and die?
5, 10, 20 or since the start of this world. Before, maybe it's all desert. No aircon, no electricity.Check the athletes, are all athletes came from cold countries? Are all games needed to be played in cold countries?Had football stopped being played nowadays in Qatar? or in this part of the world? Is there no outdoor acivities now in Qatar?Let the athletes test their endurance here. There are time even me stayed out in this temperature for a long period of time and as of now, I never experienced to be unconcious although thereare times I really felt dizzy. But I am not a certified athlete and was not trained for such. Really don't understand, what's the big deal about Qatar hot season? There can always be a remedy! But it's obvious that the real issue is not the temperature but the COUNTRY itself. A lot of big countries are offended by a tiny country getting the right or bid for a right to host a tournament!
Cheater said--"same reason that if you have a retarded son, or a blind dad and people keep making fun of them."Qatar is hardly either of these things. You should give it more credit.BTW if siting in an airport lounge makes someone important in your view, then you need to work on your self-esteem. Happygolucky--I get what you are saying, but as soon as a country decides to go on the world stage it has to accept that it can no longer control the debate and people would criticize it however they want (no matter how many people whine about it). If you don't want to be noticed, don't keep raising your hand and shouting "look at me." Far far worse is being said in other forums. Luxembourg's per capita wealth in a on a par with Qatar's but they don't get much media attention because they have decided to keep a lower profile.
HGL - the point is, it should not matter, it is your choice to be offended and we start on a slippery slope when we leave it to other people to decide whether they are offended or not. I could say what you have said offends me and you should not be allowed to say it.
I'm definitely mocking Cheater, but I don't think he's Qatari, so it doesn't matter. This is the same dude that goes trolling through threads trying to bait people by FM, gadarene, LP, Tinker, Raven, etc. etc. etc. until he gets banned. Then he makes a new ID and does it all over again. Yaaaawwnnn. As for Qatar I'd so those being criticized here have a health attitude towards it. Some of it they like, some they don't. I'm in that boat. I think it's great they have some quality tennis tournaments, I wish Qatar well for the WC (but I would have rather seen it in Australia for personal reasons), but having the tour de France here is laughable. If people are offended by that, then they need thicker skins dude.
jjj75... I dont know if it is difficult to differentiate between a mockery and a plain statement. Anyways, let us just agree to disagree on the understanding.
HGL but that is a matter of opinion what someone would term as mockery, someone else could say is a statement of fact? In any event, I would still defend their right to say it. The minute we start putting restrictions on what people say and how they say, is the minute we start on the slippery slope of something akin to a dictatorship - once again look at North Korea, they are not allowed to say a single word against the government and just look how happy they are
jjj75... what I mean how one says it.. lets see if I reproduce what I said before would make it clear:
"Comments, freedom of speech...well when they turn into 'mockery' that is where it gets a bit uncomfortable".
Although I've explained this over a dozen of times in the past 5 years, allow me to highlight the following ;
Although Qatar is no Saudi or china , I think you can notice the state of local media with very little journalism in display and plain governmental official press releases. This have been the case forever and only in the past decade things started changing with the abolishment of the ministry of information. Although the new media law is yet be issued, there have been significant acceptance from the power that be of people expressing themselves in public. Qataris started to speak out in live tv & radio shows, Qatar foundation introduced Qatar debate program for high school & college students. Last year sheika Mozah said in a WSJ interview " we don't want passive citizens". While the authority welcomes this, change must come from within. Culturally, people here takes criticism as insults. When last month al Watan newspaper editor in chief called the minister of education to step down after a series of harsh criticism for over a week, most people were very offended. Despite the fact that many Qataris resent the current education reforms
Mindsets can't be changed over night, locals here still have ethnic , tribal & sectarian barriers within each other . It would certainly take time to accept criticism from Foreigners ( whether constructive or negative)
HGL - what do you mean how you say it, when you are reading something how can you possibly know the way in which he says it, only by speaking to someone can you really determine exactly someone's emphasis. In any event, someone should still be allowed to say it any way they wish to, as long as it does not physically harm other people.
Genesis, I get this, I have also been here a while but if collectively this country wants to become noticed on the world stage, there are things that may happen that some people do not like and open criticism and freedom of the press is one of them.
By deleting his earlier posts , I guess he's not interested to engage in further debate. I don't see what your point in provoking him?
jjj75... agree completely on that "defending your right to say it"... but the issue is not what you want to say but how you say it.
These "few local friends" have families, don't they?
LP but you stressed on "a few local friends" and then extended it to family...now where am I going wrong.
@ cheated,"this is my country"?!?!?!...do you personally decide policy for the Government of the State of Qatar?...it's a very simple yes or no question...
HGL - Voltaire made many great statements but there is one that stands out from them all which most people will have heard of even if they did not know who originally said it:
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it
HGLimpressed with the skills, how to turn one to the back foot .
"local" is a bit restricted, happy. There are humans who are not locals, too.
Is there a difference between a local and a human, LP.
A 'human' would be better, happy.
their money their country 'n u need to quit pockin ur nose in to everybody's buiz
LP...thanks for the clarification... so hereon I would consider your comments as being said by a local... fine.
jjj75...you mean to say everyone here has to read Voltaire to understand what you want to say... now how intelligent is that.
Oh Happy, you don't understand. There is no medical reason for being here. Everybody here gets the sunlight, and in other countries (developed ones) vitamin D is supplemented in the early age of childhood, maybe up to 3 or four years to make up for missing sunlight. Now, having chosen to live in Qatar (live, not work!), and becoming part of the 'family' (we are considered members of the families that we call friends), I have the right to criticize my uncle, my brother, my sister, my father, and so on. Just like in any other family!
HGL and Cheated - I think that you need to read a bit of Voltaire
same reason that if you have a retarded son, or a blind dad and people keep making fun of them. It is ok to point the bad things but not when certain people make it their full time job to just point out the negatives in a laughable sarcastic and annoying manner.I know i probably do not make any sense to many.
Comments, freedom of speech...well when they turn into 'mockery' that is where it gets a bit uncomfortable.
I cannot understand why anyone would want to stop someone commenting about Qatar, including the good, bad and ugly - for those that don't like 'freedom of speech' why don't you take a turn in North Korea and then report back on if you think it is a good idea for people to say what they think.
Why is cheater deleting all his posts? Is the fantasy life over for him?
LP...then Qatar is not only about money but sunlight too, more of a medicinal sunlight as in your case. Hope your children are keeping good. And so if that be, then why frown or ridicule at anything and everything... its your necessity to be here rather than need of Qatar.
As for friends I didn't mean FB but the ones with whom you can interact in person..may be, call them local .
........
"I stand behind my comment about people like you who act tough behind their computer... it is to overcome how they act in reality."You're describing yourself. You're the one making impotent threats because people think it is silly to hold a bicycle race in Qatar in June. And dissing you is not dissing Qatar, because you aren't who you claim to be. ROFL. I'm off to catch a plane. Good luck with your fantasy. And yes, Bachus, the picture is meant as sarcasm. :-)
....
PS It IS a dumb idea host the summer tour de France in Qatar. Every sports media outlet is making light of it. Lighten up people!
Great. Another servant poser playing out his fantasy of being a Qatari on QL. The threats and incivility gives it away every time. Haven't we seen this before?
For the first time ever I agree with 2012 Olympics. This dude is a total troll and wannabe. @cheater Your the so-called tough guy making threats on an online forum. How sad is that dude. And (correct me if I a wrong) Frenchieman's pic is of a famous French actor and is meant to be sarcastic and making fun of stereotypes. ROFL dude. But don't stop, yours are keeping me in stitches.
I do not like Frenchie or Gadarene but I must agree that even I know cheetedbyaude is an imposter. What he is doing is a slur and offense to locals and to the rulers of Qatar!
F/man & LP etc
if you want to see ranting on a similar topic, you should read what Ghetto panther had to say to me yesterday - it was particularly amusing when he descended into talking about plates and dogs and castles and alladin etc. it was pure an utter nonsense!
genesis & cheatedbyaudiqataris it a person profile, who brings change in your writing tone? or in otherway, first U guys look inside a person profile, and then respond accordingly?if that is the case, then GET A LIFE!
No he isn't. From his phrasing, grammar and syntax (and the brief amount of time he has been on QL as this user), it is clear he is a banned former user.
FM, he is one he is one of the Al-thani`s :(
"Everyone else, especially Frenchieman, i like how tough you act online when on the street u'll run away like rats. It's ok, feel tough in here, you probably need it to let go your frustration and jealousy from us. In our faces you act like little pets and online the lion effect."ROFL. The only person making impotent threats on an online forum to mask his lack of masculinity is you. And I love how you pretend to speak for all Qataris with words like "us", especially as you obviously are not one. Quit giving decent people a bad reputation.BTW In your narcissistic rant you are mistakenly equating my contempt for you with that of Qatar. While I laugh at you personally, I have a great deal of time and interest in Qatar as a state and those enlightened Qataris who are working to forge something here. Again, sop faking your identity and quit giving decent people a bad reputation.
cheated, you are as provocative and offensive as anyone else here.
If you represent qatar, you can represent it in a much better way.
People are being very defensive about Qatar. There is a whiff of
'if you say anything negative at all about Qatar then you are traitors who should be deported - don't you know Qatar is perfect' !!!
Happy, I made a stress-free decision to come to Qatar. I wasn't looking for a job or income. I chose Qatar because I had two babies, one and three years old. And the doctors told me, if they'd grow up in Qatar, they wouldn't need vitamin D, because there is enough sunlight in Qatar. So, I chose to come here. And my family and I lived more in Qatari houses than anywhere else. And "a few local friends" is worth more than 967 friends on Facebook. Trust me!
flor--I think cheated got offended, which was turned us away from bicycles.
then no one will feel offended. Send the right message in a way it will be taken and not resisted because of rudeness!
Well said LP.
That will be so cool!
LP... if I choose to live where I want to live I generally had made an informed decision or may be under distress not being accepted anywhere else. To cry foul then is rather saying that I am an idiot not being able to make the right decision or saying that I am misfit anywhere else and so have to survive here, somehow. If neither of the two are correct then why would one stay in a country which has nothing to offer but just a few local friends (I think that is what you said) who again have nothing in common as far as my interests or way of living are concerned. Guess, finding friends anywhere else wouldnt be a problem.
Happy, we have the option to choose where we want to live. We have the option to have friends (in Qatar). We also have the option to discuss (with them) the things that are not in order. And because not all Qataris are stupid, they appreciate this. It tells them that it's not their money, but them, what makes me stay here!
@ cheated, you must be kidding if you think your or my opinion on a public internet forum is going to change any policies of the Govt. of Qatar!...yes it is the country's money & they are free to spend it as they see fit but to expect no pessimism or negative comments whatsoever on the manner of that spending is asking a bit much don't you think?!...the objective of this FORUM on this website is DEBATE,DISCUSSION on issues related to Qatar & during which there will be those for & those against which is the manner in which a debate is normally held,if you are unable to grasp that concept or it is something you aren't used to,that is your issue to deal with..."if you don't like it leave",how many million more times will that be repeated now?...i like the tax-free money i earn here in return for which i work very hard, that does NOT automatically mean i have to like everything about this place does it?...
LP don’t we have the option to refuse to accept the money offered by Qatar which they are supposed ONLY to be in possession of... why would we struggle here when nothing is right or is the shine of the money so blinding that everything else fades in its glow. I also hope it is not suggested that we have been chained and aren’t allowed to leave which we would so dearly like to do. And I would dread to assume being suggested that either of us are indispensable because then that would just the individuals assumption, not a reality.
@ genesis,on the one hand you say "negative sarcasm is to be expected",but on the other you diss someone that is giving their view against it,so i don't get it,what is your stand on this issue?...
As for the commonwealth games,do go back & read my posts, the very 1st one i posted was one in which i said i felt ashamed as an Indian that the event had so much corruption, bribery & inability to meet deadlines associated with it & i stand by it,it ought to be a matter of shame for EVERY Indian & is a perfect example of how NOT to conduct an event.
Eagley--Or maybe they could just not host it, and select a more climatologically suited event.
I am 100 per cent with FM and Lincoln Pirate. Unless expats are being paid for their loyalty, then they do not owe it. Loyalty has to be earned. People like cheatedbyaudi need to get some perspective. This is not a slave society and every person he see who is not in a thobe does not work for HIM. And any poor sucker who does work for him is likely on a slave wage earning every penny. What a racist, xenophobic tool. He is giving locals a bad name.
Instead of cooling down the roads, why not someone invent something new, like a lightweight, aerodynamic chill suit or something... :P
There have been special suits created for swimmers, so why not?
/I'm busy eating peanuts during my lunch break while coming up with this idea. ..
Genesis is blue-eyed. Indeed, Qatar is NOT self-sufficient. In tents and riding camels, maybe. But FM put it right: we work here because Qatar needs us. It's not a charity when we get a salary for our contribution to the well-being of this country. The country on the other hand, is giving us nothing but money. Because, that's all they have! So to speak, Qatar is poor. Besides money, they have nothing!
not loyalty, not ownership. Don't you want courtesy be accorded to you at all times? We may argue and debate hotly but courtesy will make it more acceptable.A lot of people here have lost that virtue. When they type their comment, they thought that they have all the freedom in the world to badmouth anything and anyone as they wishes. A lot of times, I just give them the benefits of being raised in such a manner and I feel sorry for them. Maybe once in a while, you blow your top, but if it the case all the times, well, something needs to be done!
Thank you Genesis; another sensible post. The intention of my OP is to express my surprise at how a country that is not enthusiastic about cycling, is not climatologically suited for outdoor cycling in the summer, lacks the infrastructure for the tour, and would likely object to the immodesty of speedo cycling shorts :-) would want to host something like this. Tennis, golf, soccer, athletics and other stadium sports I get. Even hosting one of the American football or baseball exhibition games would be interesting. Cricket could be pleasant in the winter. But the tour in the summer baffles me. I honestly thought it was a joke when I first saw it. I certainly would not take offense of an Arab expressed similar sentiment if Dijon announced plans for a camel racing track.Cheated--welcome to the microscope of world media. Qatar invited it in by bidding for world political and sporting events, and there is no way of controlling. Think of all the times in your life that you or other around you have freely criticized the political, social or cultural decisions of another country. This was only possible because that country received media attention, and thus you knew about it. Thanks to Qatar's push to be on the world stage, people around the world are learning about Qatar. It was a conscious choice (i.e. how often do you see Luxembourgh or Liechtenstein in the press) It's only going to get worse, and QL is tame in comparison to what is being said on other forums around the world. As for your comment: "You guys keep on forgetting that Qatar is allowing you to make money and raise your kids and save and spend."You clearly do not understand capitalism. Insufficient Qataris are incapable, in my case, or unwilling, in the case of manual labor, to build and manage their own country. Therefore they use some of their wealth to hirer foreigners. Every developed country does this to some degree (although Qatar more than others). This is not charity, and I am fairly certain that no one's contract includes a "loyalty" clause. Expats should be no more grateful to those MINORITY of Qataris for providing employment than Qataris should be grateful to expats for providing their services. You seem to think that payment of a salary gives the employer (and collectively his countrymen) some sort of ownership; I would argue that in many cases it highlights the weakness of the employer and his inability to fend for himself.PS Cabbage I'm shocked that you would agree 100%. 80%, maybe, but not 100.
With such news flowing , negative sarcatism is expected. You can't stop whoever from wondering how can such tournament be hosted in country that is not even cycling friendly.
as for gadarene, I wouldn't take him seriously. You should read how he turned into a die hard patriot when some here criticized India for hosting the commonwealth games! I guess criticism applies only to topics he tolerate
Excellent post - I agree with you 100%.
A wheeze of an idea .. Can't wait to follow the peleton winding it's way around the corniche into the jaida flyover and then Doha jadeed
How about distributing that cash to labourers and line them all up along the roadsides with watersprinklers IN THE SHADE and OUT of the HOTTEST hours of the day? Parks for pets to be walked so we don't get harrassed by locals trying to buy our pets and follow us about??? Shaded public transport stops - AND added public transportation? Affordable Malls for Bachelors?
I could just go on and on...
can u pls send us the lab report
luks u nt mch into chatting business anyways i was saying rather than complaining he can give a helping hands.
i know many ways of typing in english bt u seem knowing only one way :)
can't cant c_nt!...sorry but he just walked right into that one!...
what an 'unbrella' is??
CANT, Mr Goodlooking!
will be given individual aircon while running in the street duringa 50 degree and high humidity summer temp. Or a beach unbrella will be provided tied to their bodies. Will that be sufficient? Are you in Qatar now?
I checked the Tour de France cant be bought, unlike the WC!
"with water sprayed at certain points"!!! ROTFL! :) seriously,it's near impossible to step out without starting to feel dehydrated in a matter of minutes so really they would need to come up with something like RAINING DOWN cold water on the riders all along the course if they don't want them dropping like flies from heat stroke & dehydration...@ cheatedbyAudi,it's currently rated the "richest country in the world" my friend, surely you guys can put those billions to WAY better use than insisting on hosting world sporting events @ the peak of the summer & if you guys really must host world sporting events, surely one can find something to host in the winter months when it's too cold in most of the western world & the temperatures are perfect here for hosting any outdoor events,it's not rocket science is it?...how about harnessing solar energy?...there's a good way to spend a few billion,in a country that probably receives more sunlight in a week than some places receive in a month, the potential is HUGE & they can be global leaders in sustainable energy, how about that?...i'm no Einstein but these things are just common sense just as it defeats common sense to host outdoor sporting events at the peak of the summer in close to 50 deg. heat & 85% plus humidity, that's just saying,"we want to host it because we can & have the billions to back it up even if it makes no sense at all." so let's not get all emotional with this " 3rd world country that is trying" rhetoric...there is a LOT more that remains to be done on the ground before going off to host the Tour de France...how about some bloody public parks?...costs a LOT less than hosting the Tour don't you think?...
Frenchieman
I would not worry too much as it appears Cheated and Sam 18555 share the same DNA. They both have a real chip on their shoulders with nothing productive to say.
clearly the emir has too much time on his hands, or the heat has finally taken its toll on him.
Sam, care to translate your post? Or is that the only way you know how to type in English?
Cheadted--my goal for this thread? Entertainment while I am sitting in an airport lounge. Other than that, I have no agenda. What's yours?
Hope all locations will be airconditioned then...
And thr wud be a promise of 24degree temp ;)
if u hav so mch prob den y dnt u gv a hlpng hand rather than only complaining
Or maybe they are planning to use the new safe cycle lanes.
I was hoping they would export the new cool roads to third-world nations that only have dirt roads.
ths is technology to hired 4m west ahahahahaha
Don't worry, FM. They will cool all the roads with superior technology, and when the spectacle is over, we all will benefit from cool driving in Qatar.
the qatar lover is bak wth new product to market
