21 July 2011
DOHA: Parco Mall, the only green mall in Qatar, will celebrate its grand opening tomorrow with colourful shows, fun-filled games and exciting competitions for children.
The activities and entertainment at the family-oriented mall will continue for eight days until July 29.

Some of the event highlights are magic shows, painting competition, kids' fashion show, karaoke, interactive games, clowns and popular cartoon characters.

Adding to the fun are discounts offered by the shops. With a total area of 5,772 sq m Parco Mall, which is located in Mamoura, has 58 shops spread on a four-tiered building.

"Parco Mall is not just another mall in Doha. It offers world class shops, services and facilities for the entire family," said Moansy Thomas, General Manager, at a press conference yesterday.

What makes the mall unique compared to other shopping centres in the country is its eco-friendly environment which Thomas says an entirely new concept not found in any malls of its kind anywhere in the region. "This is a 'green mall' which features a vertical garden and a full size aquarium. The vertical garden has over 2,000 tropical plants which are capable of producing oxygen equivalent to 15 trees," he explained.

Having a total area of 100 sq m, the vertical garden has an automated irrigation, ventilation and lighting system containing over 5,000 individual parts. Its estimated air movement is 13,608 litres per hour.

The giant marine aquarium at the Food Court, which is custom built and flown directly to Doha, is also sure to catch the attention of every visitor to the new mall. Parco Mall is the first joint venture between business consortium Parco Group based in Dubai and Foodworld Group from Doha.

The launch will feature a ribbon cutting ceremony at 5pm to be attended by the mall developers and officials.

Application forms for the various competitions are available at the mall's information desk or online at www.parcomall.com.

Been there - it has been 'open' for weeks.

There is a Ramada Dry Cleaners and a Peanut seller on the ground floor.

The Vertical Garden is at the top of the escalators - plastic plants hung up.

There is a nice supermarket - think Lulu but very small. There is a 'phone shop' - DVD store and a pharmacy on the same floor (mezzanine level).

Upstairs there is small food court. Last time I was there - Wednesday all of the other things mentioned in the OP were not open and were not due to open for weeks.

If I remember rightly they have had a 'grand opening' before.

It's a nice, quiet, clean Mall with lovely staff but not fantastic.

so the bachelors can shop in peace, no kids running about or screaming and additionally no complains that the poor labourers who have been working in the sun for six or seven days a week have been ogling and staring at the families. Well if only people realized and  understood  that Lady Diana was famous for all the attention she got and craved for rather then for running away or hiding away from it.

Hopefully the new bachelor only malls will open soon and then the families may be discouraged from getting into them to avoid distracting the bachelors while they are busy with their shopping
