That's right Mom_me..

Its because of the excessive solar pumping ( evaporation) and lack of intermixing with the open oceans..thus no further addition of water. the salinity is in the level of 200 ppt whereas in the open oceans its about 30 to 50 ppt. marine life dies because of natural osmotic pressure across the animal skin.

higher salt in water exerts higher buoyancy..

when i was small, i heard that things can float on the sea because of the salty water and that more salt = more float! so i went home to make a test in the kitchen sink and i used one full box of salt but still my toys drown :(

Dead sea ???  High salinity pushes the body up. Although my friend believes it is blessed because no one can die by jumping in it. :-)
