Living at Mesaieed
Please could anyone help to give some information on living in Mesaieed. I would be coming as a single woman, and will not drive a car. I am particulalrly intersted in facilities for swimming/ beaches/ how you get around the city etc. I would also be delighted to hear from any teachers at the school, what it is like to live an work there.
Thanks in anticipation
Eagley I never said that Mesaieed is not safe for single women, what I am saying that the villas that they built for the single females are not in the best of place. The situation would be the same if you construct villas in Doha and don't provide security or a compound wall.Miss you too dear. I will be in KL in August and hope to catch up with you if you have time..:)
MBK, I didn't know that Mesaieed was not safe for single ladies.
Early last year, someone asked me to apply for a job in 1 of the companies there and since I have friends living in that area, it sounded like a good idea to me. And of course, having lived in real dinghy accomodation (although slightly upgraded before I had to leave), I suppose it would not be too much of a problem.
/ And unfortunately, I'm still loyal to my company, although I've been advised to wake up to reality, that loyalty has been dead a long time.
Hey, I miss you guys n gals. :0(
Mesaieed is an Industrial City which is barely 30 years old, and only really expanded in the last 10 to 15 years. The population is made up of 95% expats whom frequently come and go. So really beggars belief that one can spend a life time in Mesaieed?
From people who were born here and have lived here all their life.
ltfo, where the heck did you get this information for cancer from. There is no proven case of any cancer related death in Mesaieed. If someone has been affected due to the work exposure that is does not in anyway affect the population of Mesaieed at large. Please stop making irresponsible and inaccurate statements on the public forum.
Adey believe me or not technically there is single female accommodation in Mesaieed, however those villas that were built for the female teachers are yet to be taken up, purely for the one of the reasons that you mentioned security. The villas for single teachers is not bounded by any secured wall or fence hence it is deemed unsafe. So most of the single teachers are living in QP accommodation in Doha and travel every day to Mesaieed.
Mesaeed is an industrial and the most polluted town in Qatar. Lots of people who worked and lived there died from cancer ( from our family friends). So, not the best place to live in.
There is no female teachers accomodation at Messaid. It is considered too dangeruos because of the high male population. All single female teachers live in Doha. This has always been the case since the school opened, unless they have changed the rules for next academic year but I've not heard any different.Which presents a problem if you don't drive.
mike, lay off the weed man. obviously you have doha mixed up with another city.
for isolation Mesaieed is very good, but for a women to stay is not good at all
Doha is very small city and you would not be able to move arround with your own car either in doha or Mesaieed.
The beaches are not good to swimm at all, best to join a club and have fun in pools.
Friend will be able to meet you on weekends and the traffic on weekened is like fish maket and very difficlult to wait on traffic sings while the weather out is hot and humid.
so Think that you are comming to spend time in isolation.

The nearest beach will be Sealine Beach and Wakrah beach. There is small shopping mall within walking distance and other shops. There are a number of clubs that you can join including the Mesaieed Golf which has a swimming pool also.
Welcome to the Dream!!!!
@ mike51,so where do you live mate?...obviously not where the rest of us do! FYI there is only a corniche in Doha which is a MAN MADE CONCRETE STRUCTURE NOT a beach,ALL of Qatar's beaches are OUTSIDE Doha city,"amenities" huh?! sure bud, whatever you say!...
For 3 Riyals you can take the bus to Doha and in about half an hour, you will have access to all Doha beaches, amenities, hotels, ...etc. Not having a car is no problem really, the bus system is very reliable and cheap.
Mesaieed is an industrial town,a good half an hour's drive from Doha city, facilities there depend on who you're employed by...the public transport network in DOHA the capital is pretty much non-existant,there is a public bus network which is pretty rubbish in terms of connectivity and also there's a high chance you'd be the only woman on the bus & again, this is within Doha city...i believe there is like a bus every hour or so between Doha & Mesaieed(if even) & that's about it...forget about hailing a cab in Mesaieed...there aren't any & they are hard enough to come by within Doha city so i would recommend you look to buy a car ESPECIALLY if you live in Mesaieed...While there are expats living in Mesaieed, there are also a LARGE number of labour camps & the small shopping area in Mesaieed tends to be overrun by the male inhabitants of the camps in the evenings, please note i'm being neither discriminatory nor racist, those guys work hard all day & there is NOTHING else for them to do in their time off so they hang around the shopping centre, which might not be the most pleasant experience for a single woman...You will definitely make friends @ the school probably way faster than you would if you lived in Doha city because the Mesaieed community is so much smaller & as a result closer knit...Mesaieed has a nice beach,i'll leave it upto you to decide if you want to swim in it,don't often see women swimming there, there is a beach resort in Mesaieed where you can use the nice pool for a nominal fee, they also have a bar now i'm told...
Living in Massaieed without your own car is like being handicapped..
