I have just had two suitcases stolen from outside my house in Al Waab - do I go to the local police station to report it? I thought Qatar was crime free!!!

yeah, nomerci, that's what I also said. it is normal action in my country - to put outside of your house some household stuff that you want to give away. otherwise why on the earth I would leave in the middle of the street my goods unattended for a long time?

I usually leave stuff outside that I do not need anymore. It disappears immediately...probably some people thought you want to get rid of it.

Crime in Qatar is relatively low as compared to industrialized nations. and It is extremely uncommon in Al Waab Area.u are new to Doha, take care of ur belongings... If u are living in a compound complaint to ur compound security gaurds and do ask your neigjhbours too.

I kept my mobile on my work desk and somebody thought I was giving it away, so they took it............it happened twice.............and, yes Qatar is crimefree.

lol Da.. :):)may be someone thought that those are items for giving away.. that's what some people do (at least in my country), put clothes, furniture, etc. outside of their houses,  for giving away. Free to whoever wants to come and pick them up..

You may complain but considering it only has clothes it won't be their priority. Do keep a look out for someone in Qatar wearing your clothes though....:-)....start from the corniche.

Next time do not leave suitcases unattended. Do also consider pranksters - your suitcases might be somewhere around your premises.

People here often get lulled into a sense of over confidence as far as security concerns go. Low crime does not equal no crime.Inshallah hope the Police can help you reclaim your stuff..all the best!

Outside the house waiting then had to go back in the house which took longer than expected and went back and they were gone - nothing in there but clothes so no use to anyone!

sure you have to report, and yes it is safe country here but that dosn't mean to leave your things out , or leave your door open,

it is multicultural city and you shouldn't trust people around.

"crime free"!!  ha..you remind me with commercial breaks!!!
