Stolen Jetski? How can I know if the seller of a Jetski is trusted.

By merodisaster •
Hey guys,
So I'm buying this jetski from a guy, he says that it has been laying in his home garage for over a year, and the only documents he had to prove the jetski was his, is the reciept... and he lost that too...
Now if i buy it, what proves that its not stolen or anything? I mean, would I face a problem with the police if I stop in a checkpoint?
Please advice :)
I've never seen a police checkpoint in the sea! If you buy, be sure to get a singed letter/receipt from him stating that he was the legal owner at the time of sale, BOTH sign it and take a copy of his ID. Be sure to include any identifying marks (chassis number?) etc and maybe even a photo of it. Cover your own arse!
