Actually if you start factoring in the costs, it's not as good as it sounds...will depend on your SOL but basically depends on whether you get housing / schooling / car etc separately...Housing 8-12k pm : assuming a decent apartment. you can go sub7 but pretty basic.Schooling intl schools 40-60k per year. Avaiabillity in the good schools a Major issue. A lot of cheaper schools around... CaveatEmptor.Car : rental 2-4+, again depends what u want to drive..buy 60-120+Qatars not a cheap place... so - like the uk -really up to you how much u want to spend / save. Given no kids, and that ull prob want an apartment, not bad... but it aint loadsamoney.

Thank U all for your answers and input.

My salary is inclusive of housing. I am looking for a 1 BR apartment good for a couple, close to Qatar Financial Center. After taking this into account is the salary of 30,000 good enough? Thx.

Well everyone thank you for your input, i appreciate it.

Just a little more info:

My Salary includes housing of QAR 10,000. I am not looking for a villa, but only 1 Bedroom Apartment good for a couple to live in, close to Qatar Financial Center. How much would that cost? Taking that into account, is the salary good enough? Thx.

It is my 5 months salary still I am living with my family, you can decide your expense according to your life style? you can buy a small drinking water from supermarket for 1 Riyal and the same you can buy from 5 star hotel for 20-25 Riyals.

My wife and i have been here for 5years coming this November. she started on 24000QR tax free with free housing and free utilities( power and water) also free airfares back to home country once a year. Transport allowances of 2000qr which we use to get a loan to buy a 4wd, which now we own now. We also get free health insurances which includes dental. The only thing we pay for is food, fuel which is very cheap , phone and internet and everyday stuff.

We have no children here which could be the killer for allot families wallets. Schools are very dear and most are not as good as england or Australia. They lack good teachers due to most leaving due to pay and been badly treated by the local Qatar kids. Children have a hard time finding things to do here that doesn't cost money. I have seen alot of friends leave due children's eduction or cost of having them here. I have also seen families go back worse off then they come here. from owning loans and credit cards and had to sell there house back home to pay off loans. Banks will give anyone a credit card and loan but will stop you leaving country until you get a bank clearances. We have a credit card which we pay 100% off each month

So if you like to spend what you earn and live above you salary which is easy to do here. you will be in trouble when you decide to leave, or be fired which can be anytime. The five years i have been here 80% of employs at my wifes work have been asked to leave or fired. Due to placing Qatar nationals in there place. can happen at anytime they aren't loyal to western people.

So 30000qr is above average and allot can live here on less but just remember you may not like it here or be replace after 3 months so live here like it is short time. Make sure you can pay your loans if you have to leave.

For a Manager from UK, It is reasonable. Not too good.

You need QR6500(2 BR Appartment with out Gym&swimming pool)- 14000( 4BR compound villa with swimming pool, Gym etc) for Accomodation

2300 for Car, 300 for Petrol. 2500 for food(if you cook)

2000 for week end outing, 1500 for child education.

All togeter Around QR15000 will go as minimum expense.

If you are blessed with free accommodation, this salary is very good.

if it's not at least 3X what you are earning in your home country then I think that would not be enough

just my two cents

Depend which one is your life-style? Is the accommodation paid by Company? and the car (3000 for rent)? Do you like compound villa (12000) or apartment (7000)? Do you like club (500 per month)? Do you like drink alcohol (500 per month)? Do you like go to restaurant (700 per month)? Your wife like new clothes (1000 per month)? QR 30.000 are not enough for western couple!

it depends

if it is excluding the accomodation or including

because if you want to live in a villa

you need something like 10000 QR monthly

and if it it is included then you will end up with 20000

which is enough to live a meduam life for you and your family

To be honst i think it is a good salary for an engineer or maybe senior person

so go a head and good luck

It depends on your living standard and expectation for savings. In this connection it is important to know do all allowances (specialy accomodation allowance) are included or not in this amount. For example rent of a villa will be in the range of 12,000 - 20,000 QR etc.

Good Luck

Oh come on... are you stupid or what. That is good money and you know it. If you can't figure out if that is a good enough salary then you don't deserve that amount.

I am receiving less than that and i have moved to Qatar with my wife and 3 kids and yet somehow we managed to survive... Surely 30K QR will be more than good enough for you and your wife to live and enjoy life in Doha...
