Licence for automatic cars :only women
DOHA: With a rapid rise in the number of people seeking a licence to drive automatic cars, the Traffic Department has once again restricted such licences to women, according to driving school sources.
Those who obtain a licence to drive automatic cars are not permitted to drive cars with manual gears. When this licence was first introduced in the country, it was limited to women but the Traffic Department later relaxed the rules allowing men to obtain a similar licence.
With the rising popularity of automatic cars in the country, the number of men and women taking driving classes to obtain an “automatic licence” has also gone up. Most people find driving an automatic car easier and more comfortable compared to manual cars, especially during heavy traffic jams.
Men seeking a licence to drive automatic cars are now required to take special permission from the Traffic Department, Robert G Makondo, director of the Karwa Transportation Training and Development Center, told this newspaper yesterday. And the permission will be mostly limited to certain categories of professionals.
“Almost all women taking driving lessons in our school are opting for an automatic licence,”
said Mokondo. The Karwa driving school has employed a number of women trainers to cater to the increasing demand from women seeking a driving licence.
All driving schools in the country have been asked to introduce theory classes, along with practical training from next year, the official said.

That move is senseless. After all most of the vehicles on road are with automatic transmission and they are more comfortable to drive in city and crowded areas. Not everyone is a driving enthusiast..they just need a vehicle n license for the purpose of moving around..and they have the right to choose the comfortable one.
Good move....
Men need to learn Clutch Control ... specially in this region..
Similar with the "P" for provisional.
Baldrick, in my country, regardless of age, in the first year after obtaining the licence the driver is called a beginner and has to display on the windscreen and the back window of the car the distinctive sign (a black exclamation mark (!) on a yellow disk).
With another words...we are "drivers" only after getting rid of the "noob sign"! :)
they wont stop make up stuff while driving :(
Good! Should stop a few 'point-n-go' drivers getting licenses when they obviously can't drive for toffee.
