From Canada to Qatar,
Hello everyone,
I'm a 21 year old university student studying Tourism & Environmental Science at Brock University in Ontario Canada.
Recently, I worked with the City of St.Catharines to help develop their Sustainability Strategy and Youth Engagement campaign. My degree allows me to do many things, including develop new and effective policies which promote balance between environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic viability within the tourism industry.
Over the past year I have been exploring the option of leaving Canada and moving to Qatar for employment within the tourism industry, but before I can put this plan into action I'm trying to learn as much about the employment process as possible.
Any advice on popular employers for English speaking Canadians? Or even which regions are popular for tourism employment??
Any help is greatly appreciated!

As others have said, opportunities are limited in Qatar in the tourism field - it's not a country that attracts tourists, they have a very limited tourism infrastructure compared with UAE and very few "attractions" for visitors.
They are trying to establish themselves as a sports nation, bidding on various international events and have been successful in their 2022 FIFA World Cup bid. If you have any experience in organizing and managing the customer side of events like this, you might find some opportunities(a search of these boards will reveal how poorly that aspect has been handled here).
As per my knowledge & understanding you must spend some more time atleast 3-4 years in canada and get more experience then make a plan for qatar and for sure you will get something you want it as you are canadian lol.
not all canadian like that...
Why all Canadians want to come to Qatar? Are Canadians Mallus too?
One day theres a couple of kids in a phycology class. The teacher stands up and says to the class "stand up if u think you're stupid!" after about 5 minutes Little Johnny stood up and the teacher says "do you think you're stupid Johnny?"
To which Little Johnny replies "No miss i just hate to see you standing there all by yourself!!!"
I know.. :):) lol...i am kidding.. and hey, i know you.. that's why I offered to refill your fridge.. :)
QS!!!! you know me better than that. ignore my sarcasm and idiotic rants.
aussies suck anyway :)
flan, nothing strange about it. Canada is 143 years old.. one can track his/her family tree within this time.. technically speaking, 80-90% of populations are immigrants...well, cope with it!
By the way, Australia was built by migrated criminals, who run away from prison, or was exiled... so majority of australians are immigrants or descendants of immigrants too... any problem with that?
.. on the other hand the entire teaching staff of CNA was born in Canada. so your statement "none were born in the country" has no legitimate reason and is misleading..
I guess you didn't have enough beer today.. if your fridge is empty, I can refill it in no time..
okay... :)
Canada's two official languages are English and French.
there are french speaking canadians Victoria, fyi..
ur photo look nice :)
and whats with this "Any advice on popular employers for English speaking Canadians?" --- hmmm....English speaking Canadians...hmmm....
no tourism industry here, but canadians are everywhere.....strangely none were born in the country.
Mike,
Regardless of what websites may say (they are quite good here at deceiving the readers) Qatar's tourism industry is underdeveloped and not attractive to the masses. The so called “respect for the local culture”, keeps people away.
There is no reason to travel here expect for transiting when you fly Qatar Airways to one of its many destinations.
The few employed here in this industry make an average of 1000 CAD$/month (not enough to live here for western standards).
Qatar employs its great majority of workforce from countries where salaries are extremely low and offers them a little more, which is way below the minimum salary in Canada.
Qatar is not worth it, unless you have at least 10-15 years of experience and you are in some engineering or education fields.
Only senior and professional jobs here are attractive to westerners.
I'm afraid that the tourism industry here pays less than the minimum wage in Canada!
