Commercialism gone too far or just fun ?

Browsing through the papers and came accross the term "babymoon" ..

Apparently, Mariah Carey has prepared for the birth of her twins by enjoying an indulgent "babymoon" at a spa with friends - She decided to take time out to relax prior to the birth.

As per her definition, A Babymoon is "an excuse to do something decadent before the baby arrives"

OK.. I have no problem with that, but Is this another marketing term to make us copy others and spend our money ?

So, when a local hotel advertises a "Babymoon Special" - Just remember where you heard it first :o)

nomerci ,Honey moon happens right after marriage happens, Baby Moon happens 8 1/2 months after Baby happens.

Well, I am a bit confused here...a "honeymoon" happens AFTER one gets married...should a babymoon then not happen AFTER the baby is born?

I didn't feel any pain when my child was being born :(

By anonymous• 12 Apr 2011 11:42
anonymous

Of course I did not pick spuds or go down the pit lol I was joking - I did have to make chips and eggs though as the lasagne was ruined lol x

Joking aside - there are lots of women who do just get on with it - they have to.

I am no superwoman at all - I can scream like a girl when needed - but I felt so well after three of mine were born that I did not need to rest - the C-section was a pain though- I did feel rough after that and I needed a couple of weeks to feel ok.

Seems like a good idea to me - all I managed to do before my last one came out was; wipe my pits and never regions with a wet wipe - chuck a lasagne in the oven and go to the hospital :-/

I was back home hours later to rescue the said Lasagne from the oven and make us all chips and eggs.

I would do it all so differently now.

Snessy good for you with the shaving and the pedicure - a girl has to have standards :-)

No Brit, but I'm glad I did all that, because I was taken to hospital anyway because I was having complications. It seems to be a free for all to have a look :-(

I didn't go to a spa, but as soon as I realised I was in labour I painted my nails and shaved my legs - not sure why though, I was having a homebirth.

It's a fabulous idea, once the baby (or in Mariah's case babies) comes along, you don't have time to pamper yourself. Any spare time you do have, you sleep. I personally decided I wanted a holiday before my son was born, so at 7 months preggers, I took myself off to Miami and Orlando for a holiday in the sun. OK, I didn't do it just before I gave birth, but I couldn't fly after that anyway.

Two days before my daughter was born to be precise I spent a whole day "spoiling myself"!And some of my "better off" friends go the whole hog and book themselves into fancy schmancy salons prior to their delivery dates so as you can see many of us do/did so..we just didn't call it "baby moon" though!

Both parents should be entitled to a baby moon..What a charming term indeed! In fact I believe this practice has been around forever and its only now someone has come up with a catchy name to go with it all.

Yes Brit, it's called going out and getting pissed with the lads and then having a curry at the end. Kind of a perfect night no?

By anonymous• 12 Apr 2011 08:20

Who gets to do those things Brit? I'm lucky if I get a pedicure once a year!

I think men should take a baby moon to. Who said it's a female only thing? Both Mother and Father should get a breif break to relax before the birth.

Isn't Shopping, coffee morning, high tea, perms, hairdressing, manicure, pedicure, nail buffing, sun bed enough.

Do we men , now have to accomodate "baby mooning" :O(

I think it's a great idea. :) I don't think she meant to commercialize anything, I think she just put a name to a thing a lot of wealthy women do before giving birth.
