Teaching at Al Khor International School

Hi,

My family and I are moving to Al Khor in September 2011 as I have been offered a teaching position at AKIS.

Just wondering if there is anyone else out there that will be joining at that time and may want to discuss. Otherwise I would appreciate any information from people who have already made the move...

Hey Mik

Can you tell me the name of the fake "HR Manager", as I've also been offered a job by AKIS recently.

Thanks!

I contacted the school directly from their website details. My offer was a scam to get advance payments for visa and "Admin" costs. The school knows nothing about the offer and have never heard of the HR Manager who sent the email.

Beware! I hope no one here has been out of pocket - the real school did give me an email to complain to if I had paid out money - but I was suspicious from the start.

Hi Cyprusgirl! Same questions to you really. Have you had any responses to your question? Have you taken up your post yet? I also have an offer, arrived today by email, and am looking for some advice from current employees.

It would be great to hear from you or anyone else that can tell me about the joining process.

Hi, I am in contact with this school right now, and they just sent me a tentative position. Saying they need to know if I agree with the salary before they go on with application.

Please tell me your experiences with this school. I really need to know, before I accept anything that is so far away.

All the research I have done on the city and the school sounds very good so far.

Thanks guys!! hope to hear from someone soon.

Hi I have just signed an offer for a job here, the reviews sound good. I have a few questions if any existing staff are out there would be great to email off board too. I wondered how the planning works across 14 classes per year? What is the school day? is there lunch and break duties as I do now. Is there PPA time? What accomodation do I get? Where is it? My brother and family live in Doha is that 45 mins away?I am coming with my husband he has no job at the moment but has HLTA and advanced TEFL qualification. He will be job seeking.

Hi Shell

My husband and I have accepted jobs for September, we will both be based in the senior school. Can you please tell me about your experiences over the past 6 months? Is the school a positive place to work? What is the social life like?

Hi everyone,

I am also starting work at AKIS in September and am really looing forward to it.  I am coming on my own and will be working in the lower school.

I'm now starting to get excited and am really looking forward to getting to Qatar.  Having lived in the country between 2002 and 2004, i'm looking forward to seeing all of the changes that have taken place.  It was a pretty impressive looking place then so I'm expecting lots.

I also have a couple of friends who work at the school, hence choosing to apply for a job.  They both agree that it is a good place to work, obviously it's not perfect but they have certainly enjoyed it enough to extend their contracts.

Anyway, i'll look forward to meeting everyone at the end of August/ beginning of September.

Hi Gallan,

Everything that I have heard about AKIS has been extremely positive. The principal is a very nice man, as is the head of secondary.

What posts are you and your wife interviewing for?

I knew a couple of girls who worked there. Never heard much by way of complaints from them.

My wife and I are about to interview with AKIS. What do you know of the school? Have your heard positive or negative reviews? Living in Qatar? Thanks in advance for your insights
