Beaches and stuff!!! :-)
I have been looking at this site and also overloading google for information on beaches!
We will be living in Doha, but will get a car asap when we arrive.
What I want to know is are there any good public beaches?
What about private beaches - annual passes etc? what are the prices and where are the good ones!
Bikini??? I have seen a few people say that they wear bikinis on public beaches and some say not to? Is it a law or is it down to the person etc?
One thing i am REALLY looking forward to is being by the ocean again - we moved to saudi from the coast of south wales, uk, and here we are in the mountains 10,000 ft above sea level, so will be really glad to back down to earth! :-) it isnt just for the sunbathing and swimming, i also like to just 'be' by the sea - are there any places that are good fro sunrise/sunsets etc?
I understand that a lot of people dont like to put things on the forums, so if you are prepared to share a pm would be good!!! :-)

There are some good beaches, but the best are not well marked, so it is best to travel with someone who has been. There is now law against bikinis (that I know of) but people will stare, so I would suggest a little more modesty. Bikinis are absolutely fine in compounds and the private beaches at Western hotels.
totally agree
QR 100 just to go to Beach? Even Pubs dont charge that much with cover drinks :(
Hi,
There are beach clubs at the hotels and you can pay the annual fees, despite that which is written above. All hotels on a beach offer this, at various rates. The cheaper clubs are at Marriott and Sheraton (the older hotels) at circa 12k for a couple. Sharq has a lovely beach but is marred by the port view, the Four Seasons is gorgeous but small, Hyatt very nice but a long way unless you are living in The Pearl or West Bay and the Intercon is very good, very busy. All memberships include spa and gym and health club access. Bargain hard - we know of friends who recently joined one club and got a couples membership at about 60% of list price.
The Ramada has a 'beach club' but no beach - it is instead around the pool.
If you are young(ish) you may have heard of Nikki Beach, the Miami-based, global network of super-glitzy beach clubs, They are allegedly opening on The Peal by Tower 31, Porto Arabia. Don't hold your breath, though.
Public beaches out in the wilds are fun for occasional trips but you are unlikely to want to venture to them every weekend. They are as nature intended, often with detritus washed up from the sea. Beautiful, but not always accommodating, and with no facilities.
Drop me a private message if you want more info. I'm quite aware that I've taken up way too much space on this board.

dress code in malls : " Bikni "
Cat Buys.....In a short period u have seen a lot in doha.....after a years i want to hear the same view from you.....
there are beach clubs and beaches such as katara that you need to pay to get in.
I have been searching for beaches too ... there are many ... the ones most known are quite dirty because people leave rubbish on the beaches ....
the new beaches or beaches that can only be accessed by 4x4's are cleaner and quite frankly empty ... you will be able to wear normal bathing attire ...
beach clubs - well katara free for kids but 100Qts per adult - quite expensive
Some clubs charge 45Qtrs per adult and 10 per child which is a tad better.
However you will find more comfort if you guys rent a house in a westernised compound where they have swimming pools and everyone wears normal bikinis or swim costumes ... this is what i have done in the end of a lot of searching for beaches and houses....
there are many compounds but no all have the same liberty when it comes to the pools also... so in the end its worth going to a compound where its closed and we are allowed to bathe per usual :)
Good luck ... this is a lovely place to be ...
feel free to give me a shout if you have any questions ...we have been here for 2 months ...
There are certain beaches that are able to wear a bikini without any issues...
Beaches are there but Bikini's are not allowed only shorts...no prices for beaches here its free of coast if u want to drive in beach then u have to pay .dont expect more Doha is not like dubai.
Search on QL, you will get lots of threads regarding beaches...
there is no such thing as Annual pass over here... This is not Europe.... :)
