Real Estate Agency Fee
I got an apartment recently on rent and I found that the first person who I contacted is a Real Estate agent However he did not mentioned any thing about his commission till finalize the apartment After I singed the rent contact he mentioned about his agency fee further he did not mentioned any certain amount of the said fee What should I do ? Do I need to pay or not
This agent is not a local He is an Indian from Kerala
Is the agent a "Local" man? Chances are remote however I am asking this. If the commission issue was not mentioned before, you are ethically not payable. On issues like this you act according to instinct rather than waiting for answers from a forum like this.
NO! Don't pay him a penny! My stupid agent tried to scam me the exact same way. I told him "No, you get paid by the owner. I'm not paying you a thing!" He kept trying to tell me it was agreed upon beforehand and all this bull%$#&. I stood my ground and told him I'm not paying anything more than what is written in the contract that I signed. He finally backed off.
That's a lesson for ex-pats here.....NEVER trust the locals. They have been scamming ex-pats for decades. They should be ashamed of themselves. They have no conscience.
Without any agreement between you and the agent you dont have to pay. Suggest you tell him such commissions are due from the lessor/owner, since in this situation, its more revenue for the lessor and expense on you as tenant.
Tell him to get commission from the owner. He did his job.
