Pregnant woman travelling to Qatar

Hello everyone. I am an Australian citizen (with Pakistani origin). I have been offered a job in Doha, and I am thinking of accepting the offer and working in Qatar from end of January 2011. I have a query though.

My wife is 3 months pregnant at the moment. If we come to Qatar, and deliver the baby here in Doha, is it possible to deliver the baby in Hamad Hospital without paying a huge amount? I am asking this because my wife is already pregnant. I am not sure if Hamad Hospital will charge us a huge amount like private hospitals in Qatar do for the baby delivery, simply because my wife is already pregnant and not going to get pregnant in Qatar like in most foreign women's case.

Also, I wish to know if Hamad Hospital allow my wife's mother to be with her in the labour room and recovery room?

I'll appreciate your quick response. Cheers.

that a work colleague of mine has just had at Hamad.

His wife was bleeding constantly, and when going to Hamad, they told him nothing was wrong and to come back on the 16th December - They opted to abort the baby, which Hamad wouldn't do, so they decided to go back to India only to discover there, that the baby was in fact dead and had been for some time...

This kind of thing worries me about Hamad.

Another case I recently came to know was the 2 hospitals where more interested in seeing a marriage certificate than assisting a lady who was in much pain and bleeding while pregnant. She lost the baby due to the this negligance.

Ram - Many thanks. Your valuable input were just in time for me. Local clinic referred my wife to Hamad to monitor her pregnancy - high blood sugar level. The services were amazing. More than that.. the pleasing personality of staffs and doctors were astounding! Thank You Qatar for taking privileged care of our beloved ones!

Me and my wife were really amazed and shocked by the service being offered and we thought that at least we are going to pay thousands ..

and when i went to the cashier, he asked only for 200 and i was looking behind me and i found that my wife was downstairs already and been released without even knowing if i paid or not .. so i asked the cashier

My wife is already discharged what if i took her and went out without paying, would anybody know?

He replied: Go ahead .. u can leave without paying

I asked: How? what about my outstanding??

He said: any time u will come to Hamad hospital or emergency, they will ask u to pay ur outstanding first before giving u any more service.

I wondered: so if i don't have money right now i can go and come back and pay it by the beginning of the month

he said: yes

I paid the money and i left, feeling so proud to be in Qatar and feeling like a Human being being well treated me and my wife.

in my country u wouldn't even find that quality of service even in private hospitals..

Female companion will be allowed only in the labor room before giving birth.. once the woman start to give birth .. they will kick out anybody and it will be only the staff.

As for the fees, once she get the resident permit u have to make health insurance card in Hamad hospital or in any health centre near by ur area. it will cost u only 100 riyal per year ..

Having that health insurance, it will cost u almost nothing in Hamad hospital.. they will charge u only for the bed occupancy .. which is Qrs. 100 per day.

my wife stayed only for 2 nights and we paid in all the delivery Qrs. 200 (in 2008)

Giving birth service includes the following:-

- Normal delivery unless the Doctors recommended cesarian

- 2 nurses accompany ur wife all the time

- new receiving blanket, diaper, head cover and a BRAND NEW towel for your baby (u will be taking them with u while leaving the hospital)

- first 2 bottles of the most expensive milk brand in Qatar (ur wife should start breast feeding after laboring if not able u have to provide the milk)

- Baby test for eye, ear and nose (breathing)

- Baby circumcising upon ur approval (if boy i guess)

All these and we paid only for the Qrs. 200/- just for the nights stayed in hospital (other services were free of charge) + Vaccination up to may be 3 yrs or more also free of charges

Hello

The first month after your arrival in Doha, you need to go for Medical and finger prints (both are requirements for getting a Resident permit). Once you get it, you can apply one for your wife and the same process applies to her.

so once you get an RP, you can go to Hamad Hospital for this purpose and the charges are so less that you cant imagine (I am serious). Hamad Hospital is a blessing for people here. It is neat and clean with wonderful services.

yes FS, my friend's wife gave birth last year and his mother-in-law was allowed to go into the labor room and two of my friends also were allowed to have female companions while they were in the labor room.

- there's no problem with your wife delivering your baby in Women's Hospital, just bring all your legal papers (marriage certificate, your passports and photocopies of them) upon registering for natal check up in Women's Hospital.

- regarding the fee, i think it's up to your company's insurance to take care of the hospital bills.

- yes your mother-in-law is allowed to be with your wife in the labor room.

Its not a problem...once your wife's Resident permit is done she can get a govt. Health card....with that she can go to primary health centers for check ups and then they will refer her to Hamad hospital for delivery...the charges are nominal..

No Hamad hospital wont allow anyone inside the labor room….other than the staff..
