hey britexpat my car is only 1.3 year old and by the way , by saying over the counter i meant , I went to the insurance co. sat across the table facing a guy. Then i gave him the car papers, he told me estimated amt of my car n then he renewed the insurance . I came back home , thats how i did it over the counter but you can do over the counter as you please..........

and your test papers will say failed but don't just walk away with a sad face. Go back and talk to the Police Officer and explain it to him and you'll be fine.
Wakra is the best place to go. I recommend between 11am and 3pm. The cop should be there from 2pm onwards. So, if you get there after 11pm but before 2pm you're sure to avoid the rush and chit chat with the cop too ... ohh ya ... and insurance is always OTC ... they don't check your car.

Chitra how old is your car? If your car is like 2 years old then they dont bother, but if its more than that then you will have to get an inspection done before you can get it renewed.

Smoke Technical inspectin is required only for cars older than 3 yrs..Chitra are you talking about insurance or technical inspection??
