Does anyone know what is a typical life of a car battery (new car Toyota model sedan) in Doha given the hot weather. How often do you need a change? and what is a good place for battery purchase for Toyota?

Generally automotive batteries life 2-3 years. and as per my experience CMF Solite batteries -Made in Korea is the best performance batteries with 1 year Warranty.

those are bigger version of sealed lead acid battery...

you can find sealed lead acid battery in almost all the emergency light you buy from shops.

every battery works on same chemical formula.

every battery is simply cells connected in series...

each cell produce 1.2 - 2 volts.

and the size of the cell depends of the ampere we need.

I thought modern batteries were sealed units and you cannot add water ..

to extend battery life is to remove the battery when you go on leave and place it in the house out of the heat.

acid water for the battery is available in some of the supermarket..

(top is red color for acid water.

top will be blue for distilled water.)

its not 100% acid. its a mixture of acid and water. thats why its called dilute not concentrated...

to make sure its acid, just pour it in soil.. bubbles will be formed...

even the zero maintenance battery needs acid.

thing is that it already have acid in stock.

and my brother in law bought a zero maintenance batter.

which is not working now. just bought that 3 months ago.

thanks it comes with replacement warranty...

The liquid in car batteries is a solution of 35% sulfuric acid and 65% water (distilled). The acid in the battery does not deplete, its the water that gets depleted hence needs to be topped up. Do not use tap water for topping up as it contains chemicals (such as chlorine) that can harm your battery. Use distilled water instead (available in most supermarkets).

that's why it's maintenance free :)

Hi supeesh ..where to buy sulphuric acid ? thank for your time .

oh this is a difficult question.

we cannot say the battery will last this much long...

since that depends on its cycle of use...

every battery works under same formula. for producing DC current.

its life depends on the quality of materials used to make the battery and the cycle we use in our car...

the amount of current we use from it.

and the charging cycle..

the acid level...

most of the people will fill the acid level by using battery water from supermarket.

its just purified water.

that is not the one which a battery needs.

battery needs sulphuric acid not water.

(dilute sulphuric acid to be accurate.)

so what happens is...

we fill the battery with water...

and by the end of 12 months, the battery will have water instead of acid.

thus the battery become useless..

my car battery last more than 3 years...

(with extreme use.)

and i buy ordinary battery and check the acid level properly...

Thanks everyone. Does the weather have any impact on the life of battery such as hot climate countries have more battery replacement?

Exide batteries comes with 18 months of warranty and always lasts longer then 2 years. With regular city driving can easily pull upto two and half years or more.

May be a bit costly but its worth it.

I had used cheap non exide batteries which had started giving trouble starting as early as six months. In Manual transmission cars, cheaper alternatives may work for sometime but if you drive an auto-transmission go for the best in the market.

It doesnt matter if you dont go for maintenance free batts ,normal batteries of a good brand can easily match the performance. All you need to do is to take trouble to have a look at your electrolyte level periodically.Even Toyota mostly puts normal batts in their new vehicles and not the maint free types.

If is it original Toyota Battery, Japan Made, life will be 2-3 years,

for other brands, like AC DELCO, it will be 12 - 15 months.

if your car still covered under warranty, then you can replace it for free, for the first time, for the second time only you have to pay 25% of it's cost, for the third time 50% . . . . that's only if your vehicle under warranty

18 months for "zero-maintenance" batteries. Beyond that, you are lucky, but advisable to replace every 2 years if you prefer!
