Hi Doha,
Was not sure whether we add in Forums or in Question/Answers, so i am adding in both.
I have just moved in to Doha to work in a bank as a network/security expert. I have been promised a salary of 35000 QR and some one time benefits of Furniture Expense and 6 yearly tickets (Any Class). I have 12 years of international experience but not in Middle East mainly in Europe and Singapore as network security guy.
I still have some scope for negotiation although i have done one round already. I have a one (2 year old) girl and wife to support. Considering there is no other benefit do you think we can save and have a good life here in qatar.
By the way back in my home town i used to save some 2000 USD per month.
Although i am new to qatar, will be today 5 days old but i am hooked to QL since last 1 month. Need all your support guys.
If you promise to cook me veg food till i convert, I'm up for it ;-)
Gud.....Colt : I can't help it.Thou' u like ur meat, going veggie is a gud option.so think abt it....
Delhi80: Iam sure its a gud offer and as colt says, u can negotiate on ur salary rather than furniture....
u can go for a gud furnished villa or apartment as u like.Rents r also stabilised now.
Yes iam a vegetarian and i like to promote it to my friends too and COLT one gud news is that abt 38 friends have changed to veg now.....
limitations like no qatari no muslim are only in the mind...but if they are there, then you cannot do much about it. So, accept the offer and move on. Have you already joined them? If not then create a better counter offer and then start from there.
30K to 45K is 15K only and that is a ONE time payment. But if you negotiate your salary from 35K to 40K, that is 5K additional every month.
That is 2 trips an year, The reason i want to get more of furniture allowance is whether you buy furniture or not they will pay us after probabtion period, so it is my money.
Shapil i tried negotiating on the basic but i have one important qualification missing.
I am no qatari no muslim!!!!
i do not have any reference but you should be able to negotiate on the basic salary for the experience you have.
you get to make 2 trips a year, coz you're a family of 3
Yes These are 6 tickets to india, premium class.
When you say school for 2 year, i believe u talk about play-school?
Hey i like your signature.
I am a pure vegetarian so stuck with aryaas in Muntazah till the time my RP and my family comes.
how many times do I havta tell you, NO VEG all over, I love my MEAT!!! :-P
Ya don't negotiate for the furniture.. That's more than enough you are getting...
Hi Delhi,
Its a gud offer....Is this 6 yearly tickets to india? means 2 months once.hey thats too much yer.....Anyways, welcome to doha..I too have 23 months young boy and looking forward to put him in a play school by january. My hubby also works for a bank here.Gud nite its too late for us now.
you're furniture is ONE time and 30K is good enough! Negotiate your basic if you can and yes try and get at least half of your tkts converted to money if not used!
Delhi80, she would start school next year so better be prepared for that. I am sure that companies here pay for children's education.
No idea about furniture expenses but rather than taking money for tickets, you can make it in contract as refundable tickets if not used.
My lovely daughter is too young for school, do companies pay for kindergarden?
I am actually negotiating to increase the one-time furniture allowance from 30000 to 45000 and convert tickets money in cash of 15000 a year.
Very good offer...only thing to add is ask for the education allowance for your daughter as you would need that in a year time and schools fees are not cheap here.
You can easily save above 15000 QAR per month ( around 4000 US$) with good life style.
P.S: I answered the same in your post in Q and A section as well :-)
You have a nice signature gif. I think Heat is bearable but humidity is not.
Delhi in summers is pretty much like Doha and in winter even colder :-(
welcome to hot doha!
You can find me here at all odd times.. Welcome to Doha and QL.. I used to live in Vasant Kunj before coming here... Arghhhh I miss Delhi :)
Thanks guys, who reply at 10:30 in the night also. I thought of checking in the morning but you guys do not sleep i believe.
Yes i am indeed from Delhi (Punjabi Bagh) but 80 has no significance (not my year of birth). I was working in Singapore/UK for last 2-3 years for a large telecom system integrator.
that is almost $10000... if you're smart, you can easily save upto $5000 per month. Like WK said, since you have the opportnity to still negotiate, up that pay a little, try 40K, inclusive of housing.
Sounds good enough but since you are still negotiating, you can always press for a bit more. Try if they throw in company accommodation..
On an unrelated note, you from Delhi or that's just a random name?
welcome to doha , enjoy QL
