3G connection speeds

Has anyone been experiencing really bad 3G connection speeds? With the USB dongle I used to get around 500-600kbs. In the last 2 months or so it has gone down to 200 AT BEST and that is usually right in the city, outside the city it is more like 20-50kbs. I used to be able to get 500 outside the city before.

Also anyone using the USB dongle with Mac, do you use it as a generic dial up service or did you set it up as GSM/3G?
