Uk iphone in Qatar

We are moving to Qatar very soon and my husband is hoping to bring his iphone purchased in the UK, in order to obtain a contract in Qatar.

Does anyone know if this can be done? Does the phone just need to be unlocked to work on any network, or is it not that simple with an iphone?

Ask your mobile provider in the uk to unlock your phone and they will do it

It's an iphone 3g. Jailbreak?!?!? Unlock? Is that something we can do in the UK before coming out? I have been advised to have my mobile unlocked too so that it will work with the SIM card provided by my Doha employer. Not quite sure how to go about it!
