Tenancy Termination clause
By vibinchandran •
hi,
presently i have tenancy contract with a real estate firm, agreement is valid till dec 2010. however since my company is now intent to give me its own accomodation i approached them to terminate the contract. however they are asking for compensation to pay full rent for one month + additional one more month. this was a hidden clause in agreement which i overlooked while signing the contract.
is this legal? as far as i know there is a rental law in place for qatar. do i able to get any help from this law? Kindly advise if anybody can help as i will lose lot of money otherwise.
thanks,
If there is a clause in Agreement.. it can not be hidden !!
This is your mistake to sign the Agreement without reading it thoroughly. Contractually, you do not have any other option now but to pay 2 months rent to them.
Alternatively, you can try the following:
Option-1: you can place an ad in Qatar Living and on the notice boards of various Supermarkets and arrange for a tenant for this flat. You can then convince your Real Estate Company to enter into tenancy Agreement with the new tenant, and then they might return your Cheques.
Option-2:
Move to your company accomodation, place an ad as above, and sublet the flat silently for the remaining period of your Agreement. Whatever you earn, is kinda bonus !!
Sometimes, you can even earn more than what you are paying to the owner !!
