Dear TravelBug,

Firstly, you are welcome. And also congratulation for this good job,as Qatar airways is a five star airline. Here are the answers for your required questions:-

(1) Every type of food is available here and cheap.

(2) Yes here are Australian veggies.

(3) The law is very much strict, and that's why most of the people in the world prefer to do job and business here now a days.

(4) You can wear everything here. Non Qataries have freedom to wear or not wear anythin they want. But swimsuits are not allowed in public places.

(5) Yes, most of them are friendly.

(6) Food and transport is cheap but house rent is not cheap.

(7) Yes very much safe.

(8) The most important thing to know is respect of Qatari Law and it's culture.

I personally like Qatar for it's every type of facilities provided and the lowest persentage of crimes. If you have any further questions, then feel free to contact any Qatar Living member. We are looking forward to see you in Doha.

With Best Wishes.

Stay away from Qatar Airways if you don't want to live as a slave.

If your job is cabin crew with Qatar Airlines, they have very strict rules for their employees. You will almost feel as if you were in jail. Qatar also uses a sponsorship system. You cannot change jobs---ever---without your sponsors approval. If you simply quit, you are banned from work in Qatar for the next 2 years.

travelbug, I think there is a site for pilots etc, don't know the name, but you might want to look for it and get some inside info about this airline.

I do not know of australian veggies, but veggies you will certainly find here. There are also Indian vegetarian restaurants, as far as I know. Plenty of rice, as that is a staple here.

The law is pretty strict...best to stay on the right side of it....you MOST certainly do not want to get in ANY kind of trouble here.

No need for a head wrap, but do wear "culturally acceptable" clothers, as in no mini skirts or spagetthi straps...this has more to do with you not being stared at(usually by other expats), that the actual culture. although some people may get offended if you are too exposed...;)

Are the locals friendly...some are, some are not.

Cost of living...well, that depends on...if you like to go out to clubs and bars, it will be very expensive, clothes are not particularly inexpensive here either.

Food, well, again, if you buy imported, it is very expensive...local stuff is cheap.

Public transport. there are buses, they are mostly used by labourers and low level office workers.

There are taxis, but they are not reliable.

There have been incidents of women being mistreated by taxi drivers. The taxis fares are reasonable (IMHO)

Imho, you DO neeed a car to get around.

all in all, if the money is right, it is worth being here. But that is only my opinion.

@ qatarisun, you mean, a lot of uncomfortable truths that people wouldn't find anywhere else?!...definitely not in the "marhaba" booklet!...that's why QL is different...want the rosy picture like the best place for friday brunch? get a copy of the marhaba...

want the truth behind day to day life in this town, ask a question on QL...

of course,it's upto the poster to separate the sense from the nonsense eh?!...

oh, mandi.. that one i wouldn't recommend ;) so much cr*p in here lately, so many incompetent answers and semi-criminal advices, sometimes people are just talking nonsense... I mean, to read is ok, but to trust everything you read? Noway..
