What to pack when moving to Qatar from Canada
Hey guys,
I would like your advice on things to bring down when moving and things to leave behind? If you could give me advice on things that are essential and things that I shouldn't even bother bringing, would be great. We are being provided a furnished house so all I need to bring is personal items, toys (we have a one year old) and etc. If you could give me any advice or heads up it would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Definitely Bring Snow.
Bring Laptop, only "your" wife & your children with one suitcase of clothings.
Rest are all available here.
Its a civilized & modern country.
The following items cannot be brought into Canada:
firearms, explosives, fireworks and ammunition;
narcotics, other than prescription drugs;
meat, dairy products, fresh fruits and vegetables;
plants, flowers and soil;
endangered species of animals or products made from animal parts, such as the skin, feathers, fur, bones and ivory;
cultural property, including antique and cultural objects considered to have historical significance in their country of origin (you may, however, bring family heirlooms);
more than 200 cigarettes (you must pay tax on the excess amount) per person over 18 years of age if you are immigrating to Quebec, Alberta, Saskatchewan or Manitoba, or per person over 19 if you are immigrating to Ontario or any of the other provinces; and
more than 1.5 litres of wine or 1.14 litres of commercial alcohol (you must pay tax on the excess amount) per person over 19 years of age.

Bring a 2-year worth of medicine for your child, and for yourself. All those you can find over the counter and used in the last year. Medicines are available here, but my children do not like the taste, and I do not like the quality.
You may bring your personal belongings, laptop, medical equipments and some likewise...
Otherwise every thing is available here :) except some restricted items...
Seriously bring tons of Pork products.
Bring SNOW!!!!!!! Seriously, bring as many toys and especially books as the outlet for them is censored so not a great range and no real library to speak. You can bring shorts and t-shirts but they need to be knee-length and the shoulders need to be covered, a lot of ex-pats do flout this and it's not a good thing to do. Most things are available here but if you have certain favourite foods etc then I'd suggest you bring them as supply can be erratic at times and the range not great.
i am not sure what exactly you expect to hear, but I think you answered your question: "all you need to bring is personal items, toys and etc"..
.. bring cloths...don't bring too many shorts and short skirts, and too revealing tops, they are not welcomed here.. i have brought my laptop.. not sure what else to suggest..
to be honest I came to qatar with 2 medium size suitcases.. if i had to take my stuff back home now, 3,5 years later, i probably would have to ship a container..
