Hi Everyone. I am going to visit Saudi Arabia and would like to know if I am required to wear a head scarf when in Saudi. I do have an abya which I will wear but have had conflicting answers regarding the head scarf.
Thanks guys
from my experience...you have to wear abaya and cover your hair...just a simple scarf is fine. You dont need to have the full black headscarf with veil tho...just s simple one.
while in jeddah i did not see any female without abaya and headscarf
If you are a non muslim, they may not insist you to wear a scarf or veil your face. But be on the safe side and carry a scarf at least- but abaya for women is a must. Muttawas are un predictable..even though their presence is less compared to previous decades in Saudi.
But it is our duty to respect their culture since we are the visitors.
My advice is to take one along. If the muttawa catch you they will ask you to "cover your hair". you either comply or suffer their wrath
Jeddah and Dammam/Khobar are generally OK, but Riyadh is a little more strict, but I know lots of girls who go to the malls in Riyadh without covering up, though they always have the scarf with them just in case.
In case you are only passing through to say Dubai or Bahrain you won't even need the abaya so long as you stay in the car!
