Days after M'lore crash, AI plane plunged 5000 ft, hit another's path

An airplane of Air India's low-budget carrier on a flight from Dubai to Pune with 118 persons on board plunged a few thousand feet after it hit an air pocket giving tense moments just four days after the Mangalore air crash.

Days after M'lore crash, AI plane plunged 5000 ft, hit another's path

No one was injured in the incident that occurred on May 26 when the Boeing 737-800 of Air India Express which was on an auto-pilot mode hit an air pocket and dived over 5,000 feet while flying over Muscat, official sources said today.

Both the pilots of the flight IX-212 have been taken off duty pending investigations, which have been launched by Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. There were 112 passengers and a six-member crew on board.

On May 22, a Boeing 737-800 had crashed in Managalore while landing after the pilot overshot the runway killing 158 persons.

There were reports that the commander of the aircraft (IX-212) was in the toilet when the airplane, after the plunge, came directly on the path of another plane.

But official sources said there was no threat of a near-miss as no other aircraft was near the Air India plane that lsot height. The enquiry would lay bare the facts, they added.

In a statement, an Air India spokesperson said the Air India Express flight "lost some height" but "not 15,000 feet as reported".

"There are no reports of any injuries to passengers and crew. The pilots have been de-rostered to enable them to participate in the enquiry. The matter is being investigated," the spokesperson said, adding that the aircraft later landed safely at Pune.

Air India what's up?? Just two days after the disaster at Mangalore Air India was held hostage by striking engineers against some gag order. Now this. What's happening?? Customer confidence cannot go any lower.

Someone is sure killing Air India slowly so that it will run into huge losses. That would justify it being sold off dirt cheap.

This is another media hype, air pockets are very common in the aviation industry and has nothing to do with either equipment failure or human error, gosh the shit that the media passes around as facts!

I wouldn't try the buses either or go to a wedding there. More people seem to get killed on a bus either going to or from a Wedding.

Bed linen can be a tricky issue and many British just don't know where

to start as the Spanish do beds differently! Instead of the square

pillows that we are used to, the Spanish use long, narrow ones that

lie under the head and not the shoulders. So if you are going to bring

pillowcase sets with you from the UK, make sure you bring the pillows

to go inside them. As is becoming fashionable in the UK, the Spanish

are fond of using throws to give a 'finished' look to the room.

It is just the way things are going on. There is no image left of Air India which inspires any confidence. Just last week thousands of passengers were stranded and left high and dry because the engineers struck work without notice.

And to think the Govt. bailed them out to the tune of 5000 crores of rupees.

Air pockets can happen anywhere and to any aircraft. I am just pointing to the direction that Air India seems to be heading.

Are they selling Emirates Airlines for Cheap rates.

wht abt the confidence level?

I cant see any logic to interlink two events and with the Airline itself.

Hardly a months ago Emirates flight to kochi had the same airpocket effect injuring 12 people.

Maharaja dropped jus 5000ft - no injuries - I think Maharaja is better than Emirates airlines and its pilot..

Inefficiency and lack of professionalism have been the hallmark of Air India. Most of the employees are there not on merit or ability but on wasta or some recommendation. What do you expect/?

Some are making their money selling landing rights to foreign aeroplanes.

For each new destination that a foreign aircraft is allowed to land, a huge amount of money changes hands. It has to be seen to be believed.

Quite a few public sector co's have been deliberately killed in the past and sold off at a huge discount. Bad luck?? no I don't think so. Bad management, bad policies, lousy maintenance and too many freebies/
