I would like to know are there classes after school, where kids can go and learn the Quran?

Or is it easy to find a teacher to come to your place?

There is a bog difference between going to school and learning many subjects, developing critical thinking skills and learning the ability to solve problems and question things than teaching them only ONE religion that in your opinion is the best. Yes you brain wash your kids because you just happened to be Muslim and so were your patents and so on. There is no development of the human mind in most religions just blind obeidence.

Let them study all religions and then let them choose. Or are you not confident that they will make the right decision in your opinon?

we can get them to learn quran in some local mosques near my house the imams usually come an teach quran after asr prayers everyday.

as regarding teaching religion if we should let them to decide which relgion they should follow then we should also let them to decide to study school or not and most of them who have lavish upbringing in doha may not prefer to study or prefer to hang out with friends and mess their lives.

islam gives an idea and concept of one god the all mighty and to worship him alone and follow five pillars:

1. salah - to pray five times

2.shada- to testify that there is only one god and muhammad is his messenger

3.hajj- pilgriamge

4.zakat- giving alms to the poor

5. sawm- to fast on the month of ramadan

if a kid from his early age taught to follows these things does it mean he is brain washed???

we all teach,(to some its brainswash) what we beleive is right, whether its religion, culture or lifestyle. Some people teach there children a god, others teach there isnt a god, its normal, but whats is important is that while you are teaching religion(whatever religion it is) or anything else to children, its important to them to respect diversity and that its okay that not everyone will believe in our chosen religion and we have to respect peoples choice. To me thats the most important thing.

It looks as if your parents didn’t do a good job of teaching you any etiquette, if you did you would not be commenting about brainwashing the children, amongst other rubbish. First of all this is a muslim country (Qatar), if you have issues with parents teaching their children islam, then you are definitely in the wrong country. P.S. Keep your petty comments to yourself, as I am sure this forum was not created for your lame comments.

You could say that about schooling if only one thing was taught and all other ideas were excluded but that is not the case in most parts of the world.

Shouldn't we wait until we can decide for ourselves? Isn't what our parents are doing a form of brain washing and indoctrination by sending for schooling?

I have no problem ignoring him, just seems a bit tacky to hijack a thread where someone is enquiring about a particular thing. Theres always a button called "new thread" for him to bring up his burning issues.

roberto "the brave". Why dont you start another thread about your pre conceived notions about the Quran, Santa and killing in the name if religion. Myself was asking for information, not an opinion on how to raise his kids.

Well myself you could argue Santa clause is real. You never see him and if you are good you are rewarded..... Sounds like a lot of religions but I haven't heard yet anyone kill in the name of santa....

Kind of proves my point..... Get them while they are young and we can brain wash them for life.....

So surely the answer should be to have religious studies so that they can learn about all the world's religions and then they can make an informed choice of which one to follow. Otherwise your religion is based on chance. The fact that you were born to patents of that religion. It'd be a real bummer if your parents happen to follow the wrong god...

By Khawaga• 18 Mar 2010 17:58

roberto, if you don't introduce people to religion when they are very young, they usually will remain skeptical their entire lives.
