Visiting Doha - Driving license.

Hello,

Can someone please shed some light on what the rules are with regards to obtaining a driving license/permit for people on visit- visa? I hold a US license and hope to be Doha mid-April for 2-3 months.

There are posts in the forums dating back to 2008 but seems like the rules might have changes since then, hence this new post.

Please advise whether Doha DMV issues short/long term driving permits & what the process is to get one if you hold a US license.

Appreciate the help people.Thanks

Thank you all for the responses.Seems like it may be possible to get a temp Qatari license if I get a international permit (in addition to the US license).

Hi,

You need to get your temporary licence by paying apprx. 250 Riyals or something like that or get an international driving permit from AAA. No testing for US, Aus, Brit and Canadian licence holders (P.S. Other contries may also be in the list)

Regards

not 100% sure, you will need to show up at police station to get the latest info. all I know US will need to do some tests... possible without? not sure but you will need a temp license.. so bring your US license and go straight to police they tell you. if all ok incl test you can have your temp license valid for 2 month in one week

good luck

if you would have European, Singapore or Gulf license it would be more easy..
